Who expects what now?
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

Louis C.K.’s Next Chapter
In a new standup special, and a début novel, the comedian navigates murky, post-#MeToo terrain: not quite exiled, not quite welcomed back.

There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

Northwestern and Columbia being famous for journalism and bending over for Trump seems a little too on the nose these days
This is the second largest payout from a private university to the Trump admin yet, second only to Columbia’s $200m

My neighbor was at Albany Bulb in the East Bay and met a photographer named Charlie who had captured this amazing shot there. If you know him, send me his last name to credit.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

This is one of the reasons it drives me bonkers that Democrats won't organize against this Republican lawlessness: it's not just the press or voters you're talking to, it's also military and law enforcement who still take their oaths seriously. You're going to need each other when the time comes.
There’s going to come a point, if we haven’t reached it yet, where they will know that they have to remain in power in order to avoid consequences.

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

I don't think we need to make asylum cases into a political cudgel. There's no reason to think this guy shouldn't have been granted asylum, no reason to think anyone would have reasonably known he'd try to commit murder. Like turning this into an asylum thing is doing Miller's work for him.
I don't think it's good to make it out as though the administration that happened to be in charge when his asylum case was granted is to blame for the shooting, particularly when it will probably turn out to be something Trump did that motivated the attack anyway, so no need to drag asylum in.

Boy, the NFL is *really* going hard trying to make John Madden the patron saint of Thanksgiving. Next year I'm gonna start my traditions of grafting six oak trees together and only traveling by bus via logging roads so I can become the Face of Arbor Day.

Part of the problem is people think what persuades them is logic and facts.

In reality, most people's opinions are shaped primarily what they perceive to be the views of the community they're in.

So if you hang out with Nazis all day, it starts to feel "normal."
This is the correct take. Stewing in white supremacist propaganda is bad for your thinking. And if think you are so savvy that it won’t impact you, you are the exact kind of mark they are slowly converting (I’m looking at you, centrist pundits).
It’s really funny how a generation will roll its eyes at parents who watch Fox News but doesn’t see why being immersed in Twitter is having the same effect. Lots of serious people show up on Fox News too but that shouldn’t be your primary source on the news.

one of the grimmest things I’ve ever read, but happily it does contain the phrase “mysterious constellation of brutal practices”
Pointed out by my friend @carloshasanax.bsky.social . There's something weird and unsettling about a fairly homogeneous culture spread out across Europe that then collapses into an orgy of genocide.

I've definitely thought about buying a t-shirt from that website, so this is good to know.
It's happened again... An e-commerce site called Tokyo Tiger has stolen my art and is selling t-shirts and putting ads on IG/X with my artwork.

Do not buy from them.

These are not licensed products. They are stolen.

You should read this thread about Jim
THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.
