I feel this so much. I make a very intentional effort to keep up with and write about the horrors.
What keeps me going is immersing myself in the beautiful (right now, little kids) and trying to help make our tiny corner of the world more kind and lovely.
It is the only way I know to keep going.

Oh my God. This is incredible. Stephen Miller's ancestors did ultimately succeed in Johnstown, PA. But this was after his great-great-grandfather was a street peddler. These were the same people who were smeared as unfit to partake in the fruits of western civilization when they first arrived here.

Based on this last week of voting, at minimum there are 15 Democratic Senators who have no interest whatsoever in doing everything they can to stop fascism. I'm not posting this to be depressing, but to state the sober reality of how much work is being abdicated to us to fight fascism.

The House just started their vote for HR 3492, Marjorie Taylor Greene's exceedingly vile anti-trans bill. A motion to recommit (table the bill) is up and is set for a strict 5 minute vote. The motion fails on a party line vote.
Meanwhile in the House, there are two fascist bills waiting in the wings: HR 3492 & HR 498.
HR 3492 is sponsored by Marjorie Taylor Greene and would amend Sec 116 of Title 18 (which is solely about the practice of female genital mutilation) to make trans healthcare for minors a class c felony.

Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. For generations people “cut off” parents by moving away and mailing them a card once a year. Travel and long distance phone calls were expensive; distance effectively cut people off w/o being so explicit.
The difference now is that communication is cheap so cutting them off requires being explicit.

There's no hard data, so it's impossible to know for sure, but I suspect the number of adult children cutting off their parents isn't significantly higher than it used to be, and what's actually new is that the children are now explaining it in therapy terms rather than simply ceasing contact.
