We've learned in the past decade or so that forensic science and behavioral psychology are basically made up. Meanwhile, medical science turned AIDS into a manageable condition, developed a vaccine for a global pandemic, and is reversing Alzheimer's in mice
Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.

Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

They admitted it.

“You are not entitled to a response from us, or anyone, ever,” is what a US Education Department spokesperson wrote to one of our reporters, @megomatz.bsky.social, after she repeatedly tried to get comment from the department and its officials. My column on the condemnation of good journalism.
Our Reporters Reached Out for Comment. They Were Accused of Stalking and Intimidation.
Our journalists reach out to people they’re writing about to ensure fairness. But in this environment, they’ve found their efforts to do so are more likely to be vilified than appreciated.

Too many of us are asking the wrong question about the Trump-Epstein saga. We keep asking if there is a smoking gun. Instead, we should be asking why so many people in power have done nothing about where smoke has been pouring from for years.

Remember when Loeffler and Perdue bought stocks in body bags for the dead after hearing confidential intelligence.

She and Perdue bought body bags, betting a lot of Americans would die. Actually investing in it.

How sick is that?

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

Very good thread on journalists and who is allowed to cover which topics
The nyt has had a de facto ban on hiring/assigning trans journalists to cover trans issues. It’s been true for at least five years.

It’s the exemplification of bigotry. Our being trans automatically disqualifies us from being involved in coverage that is all about us.

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic.

It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today.

Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.

You probably heard the US admin is threatening to break up the National Center for Atmospheric Research: but did you know they already froze funding for the 9 regional Climate Science Adaptation Centers? From tracking invasives to helping tribes with drought, here's why the CASCs matter ⬇️
From invasive species tracking to water security – what’s lost with federal funding cuts at US Climate Adaptation Science Centers
The people who manage America’s aquifers, wetlands, shorelines and recreation areas rely on federal science as they face new and rising risks in a changing climate.

MAGA uses conspiracy theories and false accusations of "groomer" to spin a tale where they're the heroes and liberals are villains.

In 2025, the Epstein files revealed the truth: they are, as MAGA voters always were, supporters of sexual violence.

A really important piece. The times when we have opened our country to talented people from around the world are among the moments when America has been truly great. Trump is destroying that legacy and fomenting unconscionable racism.

Correct. If Trump is fascist why are you unanimously voting for his Secretary of State?
They keep voting for his nominees and judges and keep bragging about how bipartisan they are. To normal voters, if Trump, Inc are an imminent threat, why are the Dems cooperating and helping them rather than opposing them?

"the president's own party will never convict him" (true) has been turned into "impeachment is deeply unpopular" (false) by DC conventional wisdom

there's absolutely no evidence that either Trump impeachment was good for him or his party, politically, even if he wasn't convicted
This isn't a popular idea. This is an *elite* belief. There's no mass of voters who recoil from impeachment like this. Majorities wanted him convicted the last two times, and the same would easily poll >50% today. The handwringing about the sacred presidency is DC-driven, it's not voter-driven.
The popular idea is that removing a president to replace him with a non-criminal president from his party, and usually elected on his ticket, is a coup.

Do governors/mayors get replaced by number 2s all the time? Yes. There's poli sci work on this, the power of the presidency blinds people.

I wonder if the DC press knows but isn’t going public, or if they don’t know & won’t publicly ask Leavitt or Trump himself to explain it.
The President of the United States appears to be getting regular IV infusions, the public doesn’t know anything about it, & the DC media evidently doesn’t care.

We are months into the mystery of Trump’s hands, the White House is lying, & I’ve seen a grand total of one serious news story about it.
Trump looked pretty rough today -- note that both of his hands are discolored

When analyses of the bad state of the film and TV industry blame the various writers / actors’ strikes, it’d be nice if they blamed the reasons for those strikes instead.

“The industry has struggled to recover from appalling residuals offers, and aggressive tech-driven erosion of artists’ rights.”
