We really need to make “catchfart” happen.
Word of the day is ‘catchfart’, from the 17th century, used of a servant who followed their master or mistress a little too closely.
In today’s terms, a catchfart is someone who fawns upon the boss or who follows the political wind.

Amazing performance by @robgeorge.bsky.social on Track Star. I was a radio DJ in the 80’s, and kept up until Johnny Hates Jazz stumped me. Super impressed by his recall ❤️ youtu.be/r0uSuoi5czQ?...

Absolutely right.

AI might be able to summarize (poorly) what we currently know, but a major goal of historical research is to find the hidden surprises out there.

Let me illustrate …
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

I'm not sure it's in the self interest of America's tech bro billionaires to suggest that we bring back public executions to punish the most destructive people in our society.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

A massive problem today is the uneven distribution of shame. Some of us are running dedicated on-site shame servers 24/7 while others have no access to shame at all, even though they desperately need it. What we need to do is put shame in the cloud

I wanted to do another photo road trip this spring to the west of Ireland, but a little shocked to find the car rental and accommodation (exact same house/apt/B&B, same time of year - April after Easter) are 30-50% more expensive this year compared to 2 years ago. Maybe it’s Scotland this time 🤷‍♀️

We keep doing weird, hard shit — taunting ICE, yelling at Congress for not taunting ICE, buying bad websites — when nobody else does.

Our members keep getting papers.
