It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

Further proof that "tough on crime" is never actually about safety.
It is about violent social control. If that makes crime go down, that's a plus. But if it makes crime worse, that's never a reason to stop--and in fact that rise in crime is (somehow credibly) used to justify more toughness.

This is striking, and evidence of something I've been saying speculatively for a while - I think there's actually every reason to think that federal operations in Chicago could *strengthen* hispanic organised crime groups like the Latin Kings, not weaken them

It's not lost on me that the part of the White House we are destroying is the part that has to do with women's history in the White House.

Katie Lam and her ilk need to be asked *how* they would go about sending the people who shouldn't have been allowed in "home". There are lots of people who are here legally who would be expelled by her. The majority will not volunteer to leave their families, friends, jobs, and assets behind.
Apropos of nothing, I really do think UK journalists and politicians need some reminding that mass deportation of LEGAL immigrants, particularly those with permanent status, is far more extreme than even Trump's America and would basically place Britain completely on its own among democracies.

For no reason at all I thought this quote from Katie Lam MP would work in a different font. I thought I’d add a headline too.

The letter that Pete Hegseth's mom wrote to him in 2018 is incontestably damning. Moms often have such selectively rosy sentiments toward their sons that we have cliches about it. But Pete was such a monumental shithead to women that his mom could not stay silent. Incredible stuff.

Finally reading the full Gold Card EO and wow is it wild. The order says that any person who pays $1 million is, by definition, a person of "exceptional business ability" and therefore qualified for an EB-2 visa.
Does anything better sum up the Trump ethos than "all rich people are exceptional."?

Is... Is this what Nick Riviera was trying to do to Mr McGreg?!
TIL that for some people with irreparably damaged corneas, you can pull one of their teeth, drill a hole in it, install an artificial lens, sew it into their cheek (so tissue attaches), then pull it out and stick it in their damaged eye, and ... it works fine!?! www.nbcboston.com/news/health/...
Man, 34, is no longer blind after tooth is implanted in eye in 'crazy' surgery
Tooth-in-eye surgery sounds like science fiction, but it can help people with severely damaged corneas see again. A patient and his doctors describe what it's like.
