My family and I, and the entire Japanese American community on the West Coast, were denied due process during our internment in WWII. It is a cherished, critical right for all people within the U.S.’s borders.

Those survivors, who supposedly failed to "cease all combat activities" by trying to radio for help while clinging to flaming wreckage after their boat suddenly exploded for reasons completely unknown to them, died having no idea they were ever in "combat" with the US Navy at all.

We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy [sic].

Statement from AfghanEvac President Shawn VanDiver – November 26, 2025 On the shooting of two West Virginia National Guardsmen in DC We are deeply saddened by the tragic attack in Washington, DC, and our hearts go out to the West Virginia National Guardsmen and their families. No one should ever have to endure this kind of harm. We reject and condemn anyone who uses, or seeks to use, violence, and we stand with every American who is horrified and saddened by this crime. There is no excuse — no context, no grievance, no ideology — that justifies the actions of the shooter. AfghanEvac expects and fully supports the perpetrator facing full accountability and prosecution under the law. None of us want to be defined by the actions of another person, so we encourage the media, elected leaders, decision-makers, and other people of influence not to demonize the Afghan community for the deranged choice this person made. Afghan immigrants and wartime allies who resettle in the United States undergo some of the most extensive security vetting of any population entering the country. As with any serious crime, authorities will examine how this happened and whether any systems failed — and we support a fact-based review. But nothing we learn will change the simple truth that this individual alone is responsible for his actions. This individual’s isolated and violent act should not be used as an excuse to define or diminish an entire community. AfghanEvac rejects any attempt to leverage this tragedy as a political ploy to isolate or harm Afghans who have resettled in the United States. Our adversaries benefit when Americans turn on our neighbors, and so we must work together – neighbors, faith groups, civic leaders, and all who believe in justice – to extinguish rhetoric that seeks to sow fear and hate.
