I think what offends my moral sense the most is Vermeule pretending that he’s commenting on some active debate with good arguments on both sides vs. intervening in favor of an outrageous revision of settled law in service of a great atrocity

Generally, any theory of the world that extends unearned privilege to those espousing it, while demanding more of others, can be safely dismissed as self-serving bullshit.
I had missed this latest delirium by Adrian Vermeule on birthright citizenship

'Common law?! NAH, it's the Roman law of adoption that should govern the interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution!'

Texas Universities are now like police departments who would prefer to pay out the inevitable lawsuits rather than stop breaking the law
Texas A&M University will not reinstate a lecturer who was fired after a video of her teaching about gender identity in a children’s literature class went viral, despite a faculty appeals panel unanimously concluding that her dismissal was not justified.

A vice chancellor upheld the firing of Melissa McCoul, seen in a viral video being confronted by a student on her gender identity teachings, saying the termination was done with “good cause.”

I’m surprised attorneys are still professing to adopt the amoral “the law is on a higher plane” stance outside their actual practice. Kinda thought current trends razed that thinking

Fun fact about Nigeria: they recently shut down a lot of car battery recycling outfits to conduct tests.

Tests to study the large amount of lead being let off by these companies, poisoning the local populations.

These companies? US automakers that refuse to start certification programs.

1) these are all answerable questions

2) we don’t get 50% cost savings out of the deal

3) we almost certainly do get significant cost savings out of some of the ways to move to universal coverage
How much are you going to pay doctors?

Which current hospitals get shut down ?

What happens if doctors opt out of the system ? Who is going to invest in new curative therapies. You ?

How much in taxes pr year do you think it's possible to collect if you took every penny from billionaires?
Half the amount that everyone currently pays could provide universal healthcare. Private health companies don’t need to exist. Eliminate them. And use your collective buying power and economies of scale to get it done. Every cent of their profit is healthcare denied.

Look….. I know I’m an adult so it’s different…… but I feel like this year’s Christmas is the least Christmas-y I’ve ever experienced.

Personally, because of all of the horror we’ve had this year. But also commercially, I feel like even companies are phoning it in or not even acknowledging it.

I’ve heard most journalists and politicians say that Trump hasn’t been directly accused of wrongdoing or implicated in the Epstein Files.

But, there are repeated instances of Trump being directly named as a perpetrator—by victims and by Epstein. It’s not circumstantial, it’s direct.

I see a lot of posts saying, "thank God they're incompetent." But, as you correctly note, incompetence is the result of Fascism, and a source of the damage it does. When you destroy everything around you, but you cannot accept blame or correction, you must always look for a new scapegoat.
