It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

Just want to point out how funny/sad it is that the same people who will refuse to refer to a trans woman as "she" have no problem calling ChatGPT "she."
If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers

There are no good-faith anti-trans arguments and no acceptable compromises on trans lives
For @msnbc.com I wrote about how Tuesday's election gives Democrats the blueprint for overcoming Republican anti-trans attacks and how thus should settle all the talk about throwing trans people under the bus.

Opinion | Democrats’ election wins showed they don't need to hide their support for trans rights
Republicans repeated Trump's anti-trans strategy from 2024 and lost big. This should be instructive for Democrats.

It’s almost like if people tell you that to win you have to turn your back on poor people, or Muslims, or trans people, or immigrants, you can just say, “no, that’s immoral, we’re not doing that,” and keep doing good old fashioned organizing and campaigning and things will be ok

There is a clutch of pundits who treat the world like it’s an Ivy League seminar course, mostly because that’s the environment in which they emerged. They think debate and white papers are the pinnacle of political action. They fume at anyone who approaches politics in any other way.

starmer is doing all the anti-immigrant and anti-trans "popularism" stuff the centrists are demanding US dems do and this is the predictable result:
The government's net approval rating has fallen to -59, Labour's lowest score to date

Approve: 11% (-2 from 23-25 August)
Disapprove: 70% (+3)
Net: -59 (-5)

University of Chicago being gutted because of insane debt loads and wasting money on crypto is incredibly ironic after what their school of economics put the global south through. Behind, the neoliberal boomerang.
The University of Chicago has a debt of over $6 billion, against an endowment of $10 billion. They played with crypto. That's more than irresponsible.

Their board of trustees contains a surprising number of people regarded as financial geniuses.

Trump wants to make the military takeovers scary to stop resistance but the truth is the military is not large enough to control all the major cities if there is mass resistance. They'd need 600k troops at a minimum and the national guard only has ~336k. They can't actually hold cities if we resist.

it’s very true that trans people have always & will always be here no matter how draconian the regime, but this isn’t enough for me; i want each individual trans person to live. i have deep investments in some of them even thriving & want more than “in the geological sense, trans people persist.”
I am so tired of "winning" for my people meaning "some of us were so cockroach-like that despite billions of dollars and the very design of society's entire structure, they couldn't kill us all"

2) i’m fascinated by the mealy-mouthed and divided approach the opposition party has taken to this situation

because it makes me ask the question: would a future democratic president *keep* troops in cities to stay “tough on crime”?

a big question worth asking at least

I think a lot of these “perfect is the enemy of good so we’re ok with anti-trans candidates” are just privileged white people facing adversity for the first time in their entire lives and are so fucking fragile and terrified they’re willing to do anything and kill anyone to protect themselves.

this is a teeny, tiny, teeny-tiny ask. it is not "purity politics" or whatever nonsense you wanna throw at it. it's basic. if you can't commit to this you pose a present danger to marginalized people, which means you can't complain if you don't get somebody's vote.
Again, I am staking out my position more than 3 years in advance! My "demands" for getting my vote are simple:

1. Promise to undo the anti-trans actions taken by the Trump admin.
2. Promise not to roll back trans rights even further.

The idea we should behave in such a way that the Trumpists will not portray us as dangerous/ lawless/ violent is a silly idea, because they always portray us that way and no amount of curtseys and rolling over and playing dead will change that. So people might as well speak up and stand strong.
