"I am the Speaker of the City Council. I speak for the parking spaces. I speak for the parking spaces, for the parking spaces have no tongues. And I am asking you, sir, at the top of my lungs. Oh please do not repurpose another one."
Over half of the City Council members have lent their support to the safety bill, giving it enough momentum to pass a future vote.

But it remains unclear if Speaker Adams, the only official with power to call the vote, will let that happen.

Say it with me, it’s “Fast, AND Free”
In @slate.com , I explained why Zohran Mamdani’s proposal for fare-free buses is a bad idea for NYC.

The cost would be enormous, the benefits meh, and the downsides real.

If Mamdani can find $1 billion/year to improve transportation, there are many better ways to spend it.

Zohran Mamdani Has Some Good Ideas for NYC Transit. His Biggest Promise Isn’t One of Them.
Riders don't want buses to be free. They want something else.

It is absolutely insane that the New York Times is granting anonymity to famous extremist race science activists in order for them to launch political attacks. More than the anonymity, the complete lack of relevant context here is egregious.
You know, when I heard that all of our personal data had been hacked, I didn't expect the first major use of it to be the NYT trying to fuck over Zohran but maybe I'm naive www.nytimes.com/2025/07/03/n...

🚨 The Dept of Defense is shutting down its weather satellite program. No more data. No more updates. Meteorologists are scrambling—and we’re heading into peak storm season.

Brilliant timing.

@hellgatenyc.com print edition, when???
a seismic political event just happened in nyc and the only options for print local news coverage are the nyt (metro desk slashed, stories written for natl audience), ny post (satan's tabloid), daily news (gutted by private equity), and a few great, independent outlets running on small margins.

Ridiculous that we allow this to happen.
Imagine 21 fully loaded 737-8 MAX going down, with no survivors—every day.

That's how many people will die in car crashes in the world in next 24 hrs.

Based on 1.3 million road deaths in 2023, 40,900 of them in US.
