If Trump wants to onshore manufacturing jobs as he has repeatedly said, then there is no deal to be made. Tariffs need to be huge and in place for a decade.
However, if he wants to use the tariffs as leverage to induce them to bribe him and his cronies, then there’s lots of wiggle room.

this has been a common theme with this administration in every negotiation, not just trade negotiations; they can't articulate what they want, they constantly move the goalposts, they're unreliable and unprofessional. it will have a lot of negative consequences, both for them and for us.
