Rain went away so got out to plant potatoes. There is a truly ridiculous number of worms in this soil. #nzgarden 🌱

Cool 😎 I got to see bird banding recently too, on a trip to Colorado. Here’s a hummingbird being held by the bird bander.

Sadly, it’s time to leave Sea Lake.

Have had such a lovely time here thanks to the Astronomical Society of Victoria. I saw the darkest sky I’ve ever been to in my life, sunsets on a salt lake that looked like other worlds and my first ever aurora! (below). 🔭

Time to head home to my little mate!

Wake up nerds, new JWST image just dropped! 🔭🧪

The Crab Nebula 🦀, a supernova remnant, captured in stunning near and mid-infrared light. Dust is shown in light yellow & green. Sulfur dominates in reds & oranges. Iron is in blue.

Hi everyone! I’m a planetary scientist who studied clouds on brown dwarf & exoplanet atmospheres. I left academia to start my own business, connecting my passions of science + art. I create unique multi-spectral space paintings by combining different wavelengths of light in interesting patterns. 🔭🐡

Her quote was about capitalism, but I think folks don't focus enough on the second half of this LeGuin quote:

"Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art."

Last night I saw the new JWST IMAX movie, Deep Sky. Beautifully produced, great footage of the JWST and its images - and lots of familiar faces (inc @stellarplanet.bsky.social, @janerigby.bsky.social and many more) . If it's showing near you and you like a good space docco, don't miss it! 🧪🔭

KInglet lands right in front of me: "Who me?"

It was kinglets in every bush and tree again today! This time they were mostly Ruby-crowneds. Migration is magical!
