Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

Another point here - one more infection could put you in this category. Nobody is guaranteed perfect health.
Usual/obligatory 'I wonder what happened in the last few years to make more people long-term sick?' post...

Governments have to:

1) acknowledge that a lot of people have not recovered from covid

2) shape policy for that in such a way as to not ignore it and not to hit people with sticks over it.
No, welfare spending is not 'out of control'.

(There is an underlying rise in health-related benfits, but this needs sensible reform - not knee jerk cuts.)

Scanning the news about the budget this morning, it's worth remembering that no one, ever, has been happy about the budget.

Endless voxpops and opinion pieces do nothing except wind people up.

But I guess that's the point.

Including for the ~3 million of us in the UK alone suffering life-crippling #LongCovid without any support, too unwell to work, barely able to function, often housebound (and losing our homes), in an ONGOING pandemic, many infected multiple times, all ages. #MECFS is in the same bracket.
The word "COVID" doesn't appear once in the govts 10 year plan for health, says economist @mrmarkethomas.bsky.social from the @99organisation.bsky.social in parliament just now.

How can you make an economic plan while ignoring something so monumental?

"Ignoring COVID is a serious flaw."
