if every marvel fan- comics, mcu, games- got together and said, we are boycotting until you pay your creators royalties (and other rights, union etc)- this industry could be changed. but we need the fans to help us.

Alice Wong was a fierce advocate for disabled rights. One of the first disabled people I ever saw go on national TV just to talk about how our existences are politicized.

May she rest in peace.
Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

Happy Halloween!!!

Reminder that Halloween is the most dangerous day of the year for pedestrians, so:

1. Don’t drive
2. If you must drive, slow down!
3. Longer term, advocate for more walkability where you live

It's kind of wild that crypto scammers became *the single biggest source of political donations* in the last US election and barely anyone even noticed. These dipshits basically own both parties now and are getting whatever they want and there's been zero (0) public deliberation or debate about it.
Crypto's $245 million campaign finance operation filled airwaves with ads not about crypto
The crypto sector emerged as a top donor this election cycle, but the ads it funded weren't about digital currencies.

An article from a site called "Clean Tech Times" about Charlie Kirk and Big Oil money is trending in r/energy on Reddit

It's a completely plagiarized, unauthorized, unlinked version of an article I published the day before

I have no idea what to do about it except complain. It's so fucked up.

Thank you to everyone who at-ted me on this. You are correct, this truly is me.
I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Plus almost all local newspapers & local TV news stations.

Plus almost all of social media.

The information environment is utterly dominated by the right & everything else is downstream of that.

Liberals are doing the right’s job for it.

By lionizing Charlie Kirk and refusing to acknowledge his real political project, they’re giving power to the right’s completely predictable effort to use his death to forward their goal of an authoritarian, fascist state.

Pretty much every societal problem — from crime to anti-immigrant sentiment to transphobia to the “male loneliness epidemic” — is downstream of a government that simply does not give a shit about making life better, easier, and more affordable for its citizens, regardless of which party is in power

Please be aware that "physical inactivity" is a risk factor, if you have a sitting job, you can get a COVID vaccine in the US. (And it is in fact a risk factor)

Btw autism is a risk factor too, under "disabilities [...] for which there is evidence in pediatric patients"
FDA is authorizing anybody with a risk factor from this list to receive the vaccines, as well as anybody 65+.

Release from HHS: HHS will wind down its development of the mRNA vaccine development activities under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

Generative AI is a massive con, and an expensive one to keep running. As companies keep splashing out on massive data centers to power the technology, they need money — and part of the way they’re getting it is by squeezing existing customers.
