"One present on Christmas eve" has turned into mayhem. My children are pelting me with candy canes and shouting "Excess is praxis!" They are quoting Georges Bataille. Please help me

I think it’s pretty likely Bari Weiss quits far sooner than anyone expects because if there’s anything we learned from her tenure at the New York Times it’s that this lady hates working, absolutely despises it, and she probably had to send like four emails today

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

This wouldn't even fly on CSPAN Booknotes, and Brian Lamb would interview just about anyone who wrote a book back then. No matter how insane your moustache or wed to the gold standard you were, you could get an hour on basic cable so long as you wrote a book

I don’t think we as a society have thanked @papapishu.bsky.social for obtaining, ripping, and uploading a master copy of the essential Ricky Jay And His 52 Assistants, Jay’s 1997 HBO special and the best distillation of his one of a kind talent archive.org/details/rick...

For a while, the first couple of seconds of Abel Ferrara’s FEAR CITY on Tubi was of the movie’s DVD menu and the “play” button changing colour. The greatest streaming service!
I like when you watch some 70s tv show on tubi and it has the 2008 era bug from a cable channel in the corner because a cablecard tivo file is the best version the alleged rightsholder has

Samsung is one of those big three memory companies. To put it in perspective: Samsung earned nearly twice as much from memory last quarter as from *its entire TV and appliance business*.
Samsung memory is nearly as big as Samsung Galaxy.
I'll add that as someone who not that long ago spent many frantic nights looking for information on sleep training, feeding, etc etc--by far the most valuable internet resource was reddit, the only place with human advice. Everything else is basically useless at this point.
This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"
Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

If you are responsible for… if you minister… a cat with long hair, sometimes you gotta clean their hairy butt. They don’t like it, you don’t like it, but it has to happen.

It may sound radical, but if one guy has so much wealth and power that he can use the large newspaper he owns to publicly threaten to ruin a service we all rely on, presumably as a bargaining tactic to get lower rates, we probably need to tax that guy until he can't do that anymore.
