They tucked this into a huge, unrelated bill because they know they'd never win in court.

Because of Congress's ineptitude, it's nearly impossible to sue federal law enforcement, even for egregious, brazen, illegal abuses. Never mind routine, entirely above-board police work, as was the case here.
A handful of GOP senators want a half million bucks each because their cellphone records were lawfully subpoenaed by Jack Smith. Imagine how much they’d be demanding if they were actually victimized by government thugs
NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

We are at a point where the vice-President can claim that one of the most widely used and tested medications is "useless" because disregard for science is seen as a virtue.
JD Vance calls ibuprofen "useless medication" and implies it's not "necessary, safe and effective."

According to the car wash owner, agents arrested employees before they could obtain their documentation from their work lockers. So many were likely here legally.

Here's hoping this article on Zac boasting about how he ruined some immigrants' lives follows him around for a very long time.

the point of camo for a soldier is to obscure their position from the enemy. camo in an urban environment is completely different, and this forest green or desert pattern is functionally useless.

police only dress this way to project an image of power they should not have.

I simply refuse to accept that police ever have to look like this. this is just pure cosplay. it should be illegal for cops to be dressed like soldiers going to war.

single member districts are bad
I'm going to die on the hill that Utah's redistricting outcome is actually bad for democracy.

We don't have a single competitive congressional district which means parties can retreat to polarizing treatment of each other rather than build roots in communities in order to win close races.
For decades, any Utah Democrat who wanted to go to Congress had to campaign as a moderate or conservative. Now that the state has a solidly blue congressional seat, though, running as a progressive is suddenly an effective strategy.

There are lots of people to blame for protecting Trump, intentionally or otherwise, but history's verdict re: Biden/Garland's manifest failure to hold Trump accountable in the four-years they had to do so should be absolutely brutal. Buchanan/Chamberlain-level indifference and incompetence.

How likely would it have been for Trump to have regained office if there had been full-airing of the Epstein stuff at any time over the past 5-6 years? And how many people are dead now who wouldn't be because Trump regained office?

I am deeply concerned.

What would really unlock the Epstein scandal is finding out why Acosta cut that insane plea deal.

Epstein plead to soliciting a minor. Which is bad. But not nearly as bad as what he was doing. And so the world acted accordingly. Some times in ignorance, some times with greed and cynicism.

I want the filibuster to go, but it is interesting that Trump just didn't have the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel change the Carter Administration's interpretation of the Antideficiency Act to open the government.

And if he doesn't, I hope the next Democratic president will.

David Axelrod stating on election night that Wilson had lost wasn't just premature and worthy of a "gotcha." It demonstrated a shocking lack of awareness of how Washington state elections work (esp. with all mail-in ballots).
Local media is calling it: Katie Wilson will be the next mayor of Seattle.

Wilson ousts Mayor Bruce Harrell after running as a progressive challenger.

Her win is a west coast companion to Mamdani’s as a statement victory for the left.
