Love, love, love this
For some reason I am reminded of the baffling conversation I once had with a KGB officer in Siberia who was convinced that Thought for the Day had to be coded instructions for Western intelligence agents.

“Otherwise it would just be nonsense and the BBC would not broadcast nonsense!”

Rereading The Hobbit as an adult casts Gandalf in a new light: an immortal who's lost touch with mortal timescales. Whenever he needs a hobbit for some adventure, he pops by the Shire to recruit that one hobbit he knows. If that guy's too old or dead, Gandalf harasses their next of kin instead

Not to spoil a 35-year-old book, but this is a plot point in Sherri Tepper's terrific and angrifyingly underappreciated novel "Grass":

listen. I do not report on Korean politics. I'm out here because my (drunk) freelancer requests received a "can't do" so I just set off on my own. this is genuinely the most clumsy scene report possible. I really want to be honest about that.

We just watched The Beekeeper and enjoyed it a ridiculous amount. I did keep saying that it was like the mockbuster version of John Wick, tho. Like if the Asylum was still making those films.
this is why i think THE BEEKEEPER is the closest thing we have right now to a modern day DEATH WISH.
I feel like I am enjoying The Beekeeper way too much because the type of villains he's tracking down/meting out justice is driving it. If it was just some ordinary corrupt millionaire it wouldn't be half as good.
