I think it’s pretty likely Bari Weiss quits far sooner than anyone expects because if there’s anything we learned from her tenure at the New York Times it’s that this lady hates working, absolutely despises it, and she probably had to send like four emails today

This is also my experience with my grandfather’s vascular dementia. To routinely be administered one means his care team is monitoring the pace of decline.

I hate the man that was Trump. And everything coming out of this administration screams stage managing elder abuse to retain power.
My dad died from complications due to Alzheimer’s.

I remember the first time they gave him this test. It was BECAUSE it was already quite clear something was very wrong, even if we didn’t yet have a diagnosis, and even if he did okay the first time.

This isn’t some routine prophylactic exam.
Omg. “”The first question is like, ‘What is this?’ And they show a lion, a giraffe, a fish, and a hippopotamus. And they say, ‘Which is the giraffe?’” he recalled.”

The US TikTok sale has been signed. The company will be controlled by a joint venture including Oracle, Silver Lake, Andreessen Horowitz, Abu Dhabi-based MGX. Adding a UAE company really makes it clear that this was never about national security concerns.

Scoop: TikTok signs deal for sale of U.S. unit after yearslong saga
The deal would end a yearslong saga to force TikTok's Chinese parent ByteDance to sell the company's U.S. operation.

It's done. I can't believe it's finally done. I've been working on this in mostly secret for so long, and I'm so excited to share it with y'all!
Introducing Ringspace: A Proposal for the Human Web
For months, I've been working on a project to demonstrate how we can preserve humanity on the web. It's finally ready for testing.

America has deindustrialized so much they can't even manufacture consent
I still can't believe they're trying to make a war happen out of thin air. Not just their abrogation of Congress's role in formally declaring a war -- that's been a slippery slope for decades -- but their total unwillingness even to go through the motions of drumming up public support.

It’s Satsuma Season. All rational and polite societies understand this is a big deal and act accordingly.
In Japan, winter and mandarins go hand in hand. That’s also the case in (at least some parts of) Canada, where giving mandarins is an honored Christmas tradition. But did you know that Japan influenced this Canadian tradition?
How Japan Made Christmas Mandarins a Canadian Tradition - Unseen Japan
A tradition popular in parts of Canada owes its roots to Japanese immigration. Now, some Japanese prefectures want to bring it back home.

I'm not even going to repost a screengrab of his post about Rob Reiner but man it really needs to be said every single day: Trump truly is the biggest piece of shit in the world, a man of absolutely no good qualities and seemingly limitless bad ones. Support for him is just so damning.

Just because it's being passed around a lot: NO, data centers in space do NOT benefit from space being cold. Space is cold in the formal sense we use to define temperature. But it is very bad at cooling. What would you rather have to cool hot metal: a lukewarm water tub or a giant cold atmosphere?

I once live-translated a reading for a Japanese kyakusama in the back room of a crystal healing shop in Sedona. She sat under a pyramid of copper pipes while I tried to make something of the space language coming from the medium.

As thanks, I received a matched pair of red jasper bookends.
Fun Sedona fact: at one point (when magazines were a thing) it had the highest number of New Age magazines per capita of anywhere in the world.
