Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since.

That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

New - Nigel Farage has been found by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards to have made 17 standards breaches, adding up to over £380,000 in late declarations.

He’s apologised, so no further investigation (which seems unusual for a breach this large)

He's right - terrific stuff. 'You cannot “live within the lie” of mutual benefit through integration when integration becomes the source of your subordination.'
Mark Carney's speech really is terrific: full text is here and very much worth your time.

The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

Reform will fight an election as a party welcoming people who think Badenoch’s parentage disqualifies her from being PM. If the Tories aren’t able even to *describe* that as a problem, what really is the point of them?

The Insurrection Act is not "martial law." It doesn't displace civilian law, it doesn't suspend habeas corpus, it doesn't alter or suspend state and local government, and it doesn't make anything newly illegal. It allows using the military to enforce existing law, it doesn't change what the law is.

Early Dilbert could be incredibly on point at times, and it's important to acknowledge that rather than pretend it was always terrible.

Scott Adams getting high on his own hype, emerging from his hate chrysalis, then doubling down on it, was very odd. He poisoned his own legacy well before death.

Re X, what is hopefully an obvious point.

It is a little awkward to ban something which you, as a Govt, are using (because it is essential, or something).

If you can’t stop using it, you’re not going to ban it.

Every time anyone from the Trump Regime speaks about their violence and killing they sound exactly like a domestic abuser saying that the partner they abused made them do it.

It’s so utterly revolting at the most basic human level.
