After years of contemplating how we can resolve and “fix” racism I keep going back to this quote from 1938
The answer seems to be that white folks need to help other white folks to change and evolve
Challenge it all you want but change is the only solution I can find
Also, now’s the time to start
Thursday is Thanksgiving and I hope you all participate in our time-honored tradition of watching Battle Royale
There will be no follow up’s, just watch it

Also light pollution!
Everyone knows data centers use a ton of water.

What hardly anyone knows: they can poison the water that remains.

And in eastern Oregon, Amazon is doing exactly that.
AI’s water problem is worse than we thought
A new investigation reveals how Amazon is amplifying Oregon’s nitrate pollution crisis.

When asked why anyone would pay for AdSense now that AI “answers questions” and doesn’t drive traffic, the team said “companies will still pay”
Turns out, they aren’t and revenue is down and this was so obvious
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I keep saying, Google intentionally making its search worse is a world-historical fumble, and it's a huge opportunity for so many others across the internet, if they'll just seize it..

For graphic novels, especially adult genre fiction, it's incredibly helpful to review it online, talk about it, recommend it to a friend—adult fiction in the graphic novel space is difficult to place, and nothing convinces readers that they'll like a book more than the personal testimonial.
If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

Will it do my job well? Of course not, but “the future” and “progress” and “investment” and all that

american oligarchs uniformly abandoned a lifetime of democratic support because it was easier for them to believe that “based meme” accounts run by czechoslovakian teens were proof of a mass populist movement in service to elon musk than face the hard truth that most people hate their fucking guts

Some good, ol’ fashioned racism on Fox
HINSON: As a mom, I think about watching a baby monitor. That's a very intimate moment with your baby and to think the Chinese could be spying on your morning routine

BARTIROMO: Why are they spying on moms?

HINSON: They just want to know what Americans are up to to undermine our way of life

Zohran Mamdani doesn’t make me, an American Jew, feel unsafe.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

It certainly sounds like they want to do another coup over oil, a commodity we have a surplus
With funding cuts for sustainable alternatives, we march backwards to a dark age. Much of the rest of the world deals with the problem while we enrich oil execs, poison people and shove bribes in our ears
Bessent: "If something happens down in Venezuela, we could really see oil prices go down even more."

One of the cruelest tricks society played on creative people was planting the idea that being proud of your work is somehow unseemly and egotistical.

You made a thing! You like it! You SHOULD be proud of it. Brag all you want!
