CLOUD ATLAS: I still will shout from the top of the valley that this is one of the finest films of the 10s. The casting controversies, the earnestness, the multilinear storytelling… none of it changes my mind one iota. It’s a masterpiece, and I am thankful I saw it the way I did, at Fantastic Fest.

This continues to be a real issue that our film Impulsion touches upon, amongst other things

I strongly suspect many people would be a lot less aggressively anti-AI at this point if they hadn’t just spent two years feeling constantly pressured, often by very unpleasant people and actors, to use it Or Else
As a lawyer I’m getting a daily machine gun of come-ons to use AI in legal research, have AI draft my documents, let AI suggest my arguments, AI can take a flying fuck at a rolling seven-fingered doughnut

Brainworm bullshit this is what aliens look like this man is possessed by a demon
Since his appointment, RFK Jr. has pursued a brutal vision of American health that several experts liken to a sort of eugenics. Kennedy has made it clear that certain deaths are acceptable or even preferable to a world where every child is vaccinated.

Okay...

...absolutely this is a problem.

But even if we removed AI, it wouldn't change the core problem of our systems of peer review that existed well before AI.
AI Is Inventing Academic Papers That Don't Exist -- And They're Being Cited in Real Journals
Academic articles from authors using large language model are creating an ecosystem of fake research that threatens human knowledge itself.

California's first state constitution in 1849 was bilingual. Spanish has been spoken in large swaths of the US for much longer than English. These people are racist asshats.

Therapist: Mark Hamill Kamille isn't real, it can't hurt you

Mark Hamill Kamille:
If curious, this is a 2024 Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra performance of 'Symphonic suite Z-GUNDAM’ (though just released on CD). They committed to honoring Saegusa’s original orchestral arrangements, after finding his handwritten sheet music deep within the SUNRISE archives.

I think Joyce Carol Oates has managed to be impossible to milkshake duck.

Not because she hasn't said problematic things - she has.

But she has said them in service to no higher goals. She's not trying to take over the government, or start a cult or a movement

PLUR1BUS is something we haven't seen in some time on TV: dangerous science fiction. A real think piece. Takes the question played around with in Asmov's GREEN PATCHES, ANNIHILATION, and even SEA OF RUST, to its most interesting conclusion: What if individualism is the biggest threat to world peace?

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Anti-EBT people have never really struggled and you can tell. "OMG! You're buying cookies & soda? With OUR money?"

Like, yeah, dickcheese. Those are calorie dense foods, which is exactly what you need when you're trying to survive.

Some people need others to suffer so their efforts feel validated.
