We elected a dementia addled right wing actor to the presidency and pretended it was the obvious thing to do.
Of course all of this had antecedents, and from all indications, about a third of the country has always been like that. But in the 1980s, the rest of us decided to allow ourselves to be led by that 30%. And now they are fully in charge.
