Fun thread about one of 2025's 'Games I Wish I Had Found Time For' - Robot Girl's Dream. A life sim/fighting tournament RPG.

It looks very charming and silly.

If the old robber barons like Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan had a stock ticker showing them nonstop insults from the hoi polloi they too would send the Pinkertons into random Midwestern cities to get into fights with locals.

The cheat code for actually talking about videogames, Im being serious here, is to assume the people who made them were human beings and go from there.

Actually astounding how often the Great Localization Debate comes down to “Oh, so you just want stiff machine translated slop with no localization??” with zero pushback. No. That’s a whole new sentence. Why are we seriously acting like that’s the desired alternative

Here's the formula!
Act harmlessly bewildered
Engage with the more visibly frustrated replies
Cherrypick users you can sealion most effectively
Ignore valid counterreplies
Move goalposts
Sealion replies that chase your goalposts

these games kind of interest me from a non culture war perspective because it always feels like they forgot to actually have something to say at the end of the day
Having actually played grassroots "woke" stuff (i.e Dustborn and Goodbye Volcano High) the experience is less watching someone push propaganda and more someone driving into a wall at 200 miles an hour and dying because they realized halfway through development they could never make OMORI.

In the Táin Bó Cúailnge, the Irish hero Cú Chulainn can enter a hulked-out rage state called the warp spasm. This is how it's described in my copy.

To exit it, his men have to dunk him into barrels of water.

THIS is what a berserk rage should look like. THIS is how you describe your next barbarian

Marks new NG2 vid is a perfect example of what I mean since he focuses on using terrain
youtu.be/7frML8CZLpY?...

Modern CAG devs and players think that this terrain stuff is bad & gets in the way of combat, so they turn everything into an arena or encourage YOU to do it by never using terrain

I think any attempt to define modern ttrpg 'cultures of play' is a failure if it doesn't classify "5e/critrole fandom" as its own thing largely disconnected from other ttrpg (or analogue game) play-cultures, and instead largely drawing from fandom and fanfic subcultures.
