I want to be very clear that I still think Harris will win, and my posts are disgust that it isn't a 100% landslide.

Folks: Don't Red Wave yourself.

The race so far shows that country is more polarized, w/rural areas swinging to Trump by ~5 and suburban/urban areas swinging to Harris by we don't yet know bc they're not counted, but in some cities turnout is historic.

There are FAR more people in latter areas.

If your parents are Jewish or Muslim and are suddenly seeing concerning messages about Harris, you should probably explain to them it’s the work of the world’s richest white supremacist who hates both Jews and Muslims and is cynically sowing division to help Trump

This Is Exactly How an Elon Musk-Funded PAC Is Microtargeting Muslims and Jews With Opposing Messages
The Future Coalition PAC is targeting according to ZIP code in highly specific ways.

the main problem with the idea of 3rd party votes is that it takes vastly more votes to obliterate the two-party system than it would to just elect the guy that sucks more, so that's where you always end up first.

Every rich person is a libertarian right up until they realize the only mechanism for contract enforcement without the rule of law is drug cartels killing each other’s entire families
“You need rule of law to have successful business” is both quite true and under-appreciated!

It is categorically immoral to rely on other people to do the necessary work of preserving democracy while you remain pure and cast a protest vote to make a point no one will care and hope most people don't do what you did and democracy is actually saved. Grow the fuck up.

Comet!
Everyone. Please. I’m asking for your help. My dog, Comet needs emergency surgery. With this operation, Comet’s prognosis is excellent.

I’ve been through so much in my life. Comet has been there for me. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for him. He is my heart.

Please help.

If you're feeling anxious about the election, it's because the stakes are very high, and the historical inflection point is getting closer.
It's not because the odds have worsened. If you feel like they have, the main factor is your social media feed, not anything concrete.
I strongly second this👇
Repeating this like a mantra. I feel more anxious because the election is getting closer and it would be catastrophic if Trump won, not because his odds of winning are increasing.
Folks, it’s just over three weeks until Election Day. The anxiety you’re feeling about the election today, however bad, is probably the best it’s gonna get for these next 23 days. Take a breath, realize what it is, don’t let it control you.

A classic of the school funding advocacy genre (that happens to be true): it costs society less to educate a child today than to pay for the consequences of not having educated them tomorrow.
Walz: "You can buy school buses and school meals or you can buy prison buses and prison meals. We'd rather buy the school buses. We'd rather invest on the front end."

actually though we're going to win this election, Harris will win the Presidency, we're going to take the House, and we're probably about 40% to hold the Senate.

I'm going to stop being neurotic about it. expecting good things.

It matters who the president is.
I am actually pretty fucked up by knowing that the outcome of the US presidential election will drastically impact the course of my life, from where I live next year to whether I can take my medication w/o breaking the law. (Once again worth mentioning: Testosterone is a controlled substance.)

Honestly I found this breathtakingly sad. No new books for children until the government clears what is an acceptable book for children.
“…at least one public library system in [SC] has made the decision to acquire no new books for those under the age of 18. [The] library board chair announced the moratorium on new purchases until the State better clarifies what is and is not permitted in public libraries.…”
A South Carolina Public Library Won't Buy New Books for Those Under 18
South Carolina's new budget proviso provided the perfect opportunity for some York County board members to harm the institution.

An optimist's view:

This cycle the GOP is really running on FAKE problems. They used to exaggerate minor but real problems, or mix some fake problems in with real problems, but the 2024 campaign is nuts. The crime stats are fake. The job stats are fake. The immigrants are eating pets.

if you accept that this is a very hard election - and that our institutions are biased against liberals - then a lot of messaging you hate suddenly makes sense

one misstep I think liberals are having internally is that there is this silent, preconceived notion that this was going to be an easy campaign, a layup election, once Harris was nominated. if you accept this then it's easy to believe she has enough slack in the rope to embrace your personal beliefs

you try to affect the options before as best as you can, and then you choose the least bad option. but there's no opting out.

if you advocate, and pressure, and argue, and then do NOT choose the least bad option, then the next time around, they will not be less bad in the way that you prefer.

it is 100% okay to block perfectly nice accounts who are nonetheless making your mental health and bsky experience worse. you can unblock them later, even! but if all someone is doing is doom posting about the election, maybe take a break from them
