I don't know anything about law enforcement training but I do think that if you go out in public with a gun on your hip and the ability to use violence on behalf of the state, you should have the emotional and cognitive wherewithal to deal with people saying mean things to you without killing anyone

For those keeping score, Bellingcat, The New York Times Visual Investigation Team, & Washington Post's Visual Forensic team have all published analysis showing the ICE shooter wasn't in the path of Renee Nicole Good’s vehicle when he shot her, contradicting statements by the President & his cronies

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

It’s darkly humorous he can’t even muster the ability to give some lip service to democracy or allowing the Venezuelan people to choose their leader.
FOX & FRIENDS: What do you think is next for the Venezuelan people now that you have removed Maduro so he can face American justice?

TRUMP: Well, we're making that decision now. We can't take a chance on letting somebody else run it, just take over where he left off. So we're making that decision

you don't need to add caveats agreeing that the head of state abducted is a bad guy before opposing abduction of a head of state by military force. If the rule was any head of government is fair game then the entire world would be a series of decapitation strikes and show trials in foreign courts.

Btw, the big story overhanging all of this is that US government is deadly serious in its stated plans to dominate and control the western hemisphere. Take the threats against Greenland very seriously indeed.

Well articulated thread saying things that have been rattling in my head better than I could’ve.

It’s the systemic, market-pressured, bullying way this tech has been shoved down our throats — as a general purpose truth machine — that most unsettles me.
I keep seeing a repeat discourse regarding AI, the "revealed preference" argument. Someone says "AI is liberating because I use it to automate boring work and build something quickly".

They generalize from personal experience therefore this tech is revolutionizing everything for everyone else too.

I work with dogs, I love them dearly. But people need to take responsibility for them. Clean up after them, train them, and for fuck’s sake keep them on a leash if you don’t have a fenced-in yard.
I don't dislike dogs to be clear. But I really really dislike how many dog owners allow their dogs to foul the streets and to yap at people and scare kids and still expect everyone to think their precious little pooch is such a good dog 14/10 whatever

Won’t confirm role of U.S. military in the attack but does confirm the role of the U.S. government.

🤔
Q: Can you say any more about the explosion in Venezuela that you mentioned in a radio interview. Did the military do that?

TRUMP: Well, it doesn't matter. But there was a major explosion in the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs. We hit the area.

The type of guys who fetishize warfare, and frequently proclaim their masculine toughness, have a long history of losing to the seemingly “weak” people who don’t want to fight but get pushed too far.

Because bluster isn’t actually strength.

Scared nerds are stronger than they think.

Good thread.
every time I can recall from history that a group has centered a culture of martial virtue to the point of conflict,

the "soft intellectuals" the warriors distinguish themselves from have learned war real quick, dominate because they pay attention to details, and then go back to art and nerdy stuff

Oh horseshit.

A colonel should be able to come up with a better lie than “we in the military don’t think too much about uniforms”
I asked SouthCom why it used a Jerusalem Cross in a post about an operation in which the Trump admin has killed at least 87 people in Caribbean/Pacific missile strikes.

“There is no other communication intent for this image” except showing soldiers “in a ready posture,” Col. Emanuel Ortiz told me.
US SouthCom a few tweets way from using a Sonnenrad patch in their imagery.

Ahead of launching a war on Venezuela, the US would like to announce that no one in Venezuela should help US forces, it'd be stupid to do so, the US will denigrate you and screw you over no matter how much you help, and blame you if even one Venezuelan who also helped the US ever does something bad.

They've been building up forces in the Caribbean since August. They'd done 20 strikes that killed 80 people. Much of this is being guided by Rubio, an anti-Maduro hawk.
