Sometimes I have to write papers about art and I write them all in a text editor because it’s an outlet where I can express myself and find interesting stuff to talk about

Also if you can’t convince academics that you know things (which is pretty easy to do) you don’t deserve a grade

Skill issue
I come back to the conviction that if a computer develops the ability to do class assignments in a way that’s this universally disruptive it says more about “school” than computing
Admins make it harder with mixed messaging and new courses/programs on this stuff, but none of those existed at the beginning of 2023 and students were already going nuts with the chatbot doing their homework.

Kinda fascinating that Trump likes Authoritarianism and wants to be a dictator but wants none of the responsibilities of being one. Bro unironically wants to be puppeted by the eunuchs

it is very much easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine that at some point linear algebra will not function.
It is easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the end of "AI".
Academics literally cannot make Gen AI go away. As in it is not possible to make it happen on a political, legal, and technical level. We do not and will not command the massive violence necessary to make chatGPT or Claude disappear. Responsible pedagogy grapples with the fact!

This is the WW2 version of that Gulf War "highway of death" trope. Sorry but winning a battle is not against the Law of Armed Combat, even if you win by a lot!

Idiots are again arguing ‘Kyiv has so few civilian casualties, Russia must be intentionally avoiding them’

So let’s repeat: Kyiv probably has the most experienced AD of any city in the world right now, &

The civilians have nearly unrivaled experience with & access to bomb shelters

They did a good job, thank you US and UK
527 aircraft and crews of the US 8th Air Force bombed Dresden in daylight raids on Feb 14-15 1945.

It was a joint RAF/USAF operation. RAF at night, USAF during the day.

I read about a Dutch Partisan who kept going in 43/44 because he could hear the RAF fly overhead at night and the USAAF at day, and *knew* that someone was still fighting.

counterpoint: yes it is a "lol Russia get pwned" moment. if you can afford to buy a porsche then you can afford to leave Russia and the fact you haven't done that makes it clear where your loyalties lie.

is it bad companies have this much power? yes. will i shed a tear for russia porscheman? no

'gig work has declined from the 1990s to now' seems counterintuitive, but I think one cause is that there was a *bunch* of gig work in the 1990s that has now largely disappeared, been automated, or gone overseas.

Last time I checked, in *every single* water-constrained Western state, residential withdrawals are a single-digit percentage of total water usage. And the big culprit is not grass lawns, or golf courses, or AI data centers.

It's farms and farmers.

there have been multiple stories of middle school girls getting harassed with generated CP of themselves over the past few years and somehow the only AI fear that seems to stick is the fucking water

if i was more conspiratorial i'd think it's a psyop
It’s the most powerful online sexual harassment tool ever invented and it’s driving people insane with parasocial relationships but the most prominent critics lie about water use.
"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.

Did the United States really spend trillions of dollars on winning the Cold War, only for its president in 2025 take orders from a Russian dictator?

This is an earth-shattering humiliation for America of which its reputation may never recover.
