Here it is. The last 10 years of hail events across the U.S. using my prototype hail tracking algorithm!

Hoping to build out a more robust climatology of hailstorms like we have for tornadoes.

Here is a 4-day track summary of Hurricanes #Humberto and #Imelda, showcasing an example of the #Fujiwhara Effect. They approached and interacted with each other, coming within 465 miles, but did not complete an orbit around a common center or merge before moving back away from each other.

The center of high pressure in the Southeast United States is revealed by dotted cumulus clouds in a circular pattern.

Areas of high pressure often dominate the broad atmospheric circulation in which clouds flow within. (2/3)
Still GeoColor satellite imagery from GOES-19 of cumulus clouds forming circular pattern in the Southeast United States on 2025-09-05.

🚨 Recruiting Two PhD/MS Students 🚨

I am looking to bring on at least two GRAs (M.S. or Ph.D. Level) beginning Spring or Fall 2026 to join our CHAOS research group. Research projects will be related to artificial intelligence and machine learning applications for extreme temperatures and rainfall

So...uhh that is an impressive heat index:

METAR OIKQ 280700Z 09010KT 7000 NSC 38/33 Q0997 NOSIG

This is the part of the world where values like this can occur. Lots of interesting things going on in the trace leading up to it. Clear sensitivities to wind direction and mixing.

In the last meeting I was in, AMS basically said attendance needs to be approximately 500 minimum for "speciality" meetings to be stand alone.

🚨🚨 I've independently confirmed with @NOAA that they received a late-breaking notice from @DeptofDefense that SSMIS data will continue to flow for the remainder of the lifespan of the satellites. I will be updating my reporting shortly. Here is the official NOAA statement 👇
NOAA statement issued July 29, 2025: NOAA will continue to have access to data from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program for the duration of the Program’s life span. The DMSP is a single dataset in a robust suite of hurricane forecasting and modeling tools in the NWS portfolio. Current forecast models continue to include data from:
•	GOES and other geostationary Earth-observing satellites
•	Polar-orbiting satellites, including Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) and EUMETSAT MetOp
•	Hurricane Hunter aircraft reconnaissance missions and other aircraft-based observations
•	Observations on the ground and from buoys
•	Radiosondes and supplemental upper air soundings
•	Ground-based weather radar sites in the U.S. and neighboring countries
In particular, the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), currently flying on NOAA’s JPSS, provides the richest, most accurate satellite weather observations available. NOAA’s data sources are fully capable of providing a complete suite of cutting-edge data and models that ensure the gold-standard weather forecasting the American people deserve.

For more information regarding DSMP, please reach out to the Department of Defense.

As a journalist and emerging public historian, I spent much of the past week reading through transcripts of oral histories made and collected by residents of Kerr County, Texas – where flash floods killed more than 100 people this month.

There’s one recording that stood out to me. 🧵

‼️ Concern continues to grow for dangerous & life-threatening flash flooding in the same areas hit by last weekend's devastating floods, with localized rain totals >10-12" possible.

Well I was today years old when I discovered that “Texas Flood” was not originally recorded by Stevie Ray Vaughan but by Larry Davis in 1958.
