I've seen hype cycles you people wouldn't believe. AI in the 1980s, natural language 4GLs, ecommerce, service buses, big data, and many more. I watched CTOs quiver with the latest FOMO. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time for disillusionment.

While I was playing around videoing airplanes flying under the aurora last night, I had my other camera taking stills. Here's 1661 stills connected covering 55 actual minutes. The bright, fast moving streaks are the airplanes. I sped this up faster than normal because we all have swiping to do.

One for the books: a severe geomagnetic storm slammed into Earth’s space weather environs late last night, sending aurorae as far south as Florida, Alabama and Arizona. Looks like the Kp index topped out this AM at a powerful Kp near 9 around 00-03:00 UT, and still sits at a respectable value of 5.

I really need to get to bed, but I just poked my head out the back door again. This is the view from my deck. All of this is looking south. When the geomagnetic storms are like this, the oval overshoots me and stretches into the US, which is why so many are seeing it tonight. #aurora

Must have been a hell of a solar flare for the aurora borealis to be this strong in Kansas tonight. It was very visible to the naked eye, the. Pink and green and even some yellow was clearly visible. #aurora #astronomy

I am on my way home to Toronto and the aurorae are absolutely phenomenal.
If you are anywhere in the northern half of the continent, get outside and look up! Or better still, put your camera on a 10 second exposure and point it up.
