Seven years after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, the world is being asked to forget what happens when governments decide reporters are disposable—and to turn away from what that precedent means for all of us.

Related: be fucking nice to postal workers right now. It’s not their fault postage has gone up three times this year or your package won’t get there until after New Year’s because you waited til the week of Christmas. Being mad at postal workers is the divisive shit they encourage.

This cannot be said enough! Sigh.
It’s not “losing money” any more than air traffic controllers or public highways or street lights or fire departments are “losing money.” It is a government service. It’s not SUPPOSED to make money. It’s supposed to reliably deliver to anywhere in the US, even the unprofitable places.

The USPS faces a tight squeeze. With fewer people using the mail, it’s lost more and more money: $9 billion in the 12 months ending in September alone.

Happy Winter! 10:03am ET today marked the Winter Solstice, the day of the year when the Earth's northern hemisphere is tilted furthest away from the Sun – making today the shortest of the year for those of us north of the equator.
Will wintry temperatures be in your area? 😬

Children are being exploited. Let’s respond by dramatically hindering our ability to point out or criticize children being exploited, using methods we don’t understand because we’re old and incurious.
Children are being exploited and abused because Big Tech consistently prioritizes profits over people.

Enough is enough. Time to sunset Section 230.

Relatedly: This case involved about $750,000 in uncompensated work, tens of thousands of dollars in unreimbursed expenses, and some four years of exhaustive litigation. Being a civil rights lawyer is hard (and frequently unprofitable). So support your local civil rights organizations.

It might be easy to find things like this merely petty or superficial, but that would be a mistake. Demeaning, erasing or eliminating celebrations or acknowledgments of Black America is straight from Redemption playbook, and is intended to reinforce the racial hierarchy and signal its reinstatement.

This is fantastic. Ford says no new bike lanes that remove traffic lanes, so the City says, OK, fine, we won't remove lanes, we'll just narrow them. So brilliant. I hope they find more ways to maliciously comply. We love a workaround!

Toronto proposes over 20 km of new bike lanes, bypassing provincial veto
The city plans to skirt the Ford government’s bike lane ban by narrowing the width of roads to squeeze in bike lanes, rather than removing car lanes

Do not blame institutions, which are many things to many people.

Do not blame the people who work there, who have little real say and are universally staunchly opposed. (Very often students too.)

Instead:

Blame leadership.

Blame alumni with fingers on scales.

Blame the media for normalizing.

It’s also insulting to people with addictions. It’s like making fun of someone’s appearance.
