DOGE was always a very thinly disguised con to dress up data theft and extraction class destruction of federal corporate oversight as innovative, and it's important to remember that part of the reason it worked so well is that the press helped legitimize it
hey don't be so hard on yourselves; it delivered oceans of sensitive government and citizen data to billionaires
Musk’s DOGE Quietly Killed Off After Delivering Almost Nothing
The agency disbanded eight months ahead of schedule.

Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon

My book has an essay called “Larry Summers Caused My Eating Disorder,” about how Summers — as the face of the neoliberal Y2K era policy consensus — provided expertise that trashed Russia’s economy, leading indirectly to a massive market for female models who were often exploited, to put it mildly.
"Summers declined to comment on Wednesday beyond referring to previous remarks in which he acknowledged 'regretting my past associations with Mr. Epstein.' (...Summers is a contributing writer for The New York Times Opinion section.)"

They don't mention the IQ email

Have any Brits speculated yet that Starmer picked Peter Mandleson to be ambassador to the US precisely because his longstanding friendship with Jefferey Epstein was hoped to give him particular camaraderie with Donald Trump?

“The President sent his lawyer to negotiate a settlement with a convicted sex trafficker to provide cushy accommodation in exchange for her silence on his participation in said sex trafficking” is a cold description of the facts of an insane story that the media doesn’t find worthy of scrutiny

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Oil is the most Lovecraftian thing that actually exists.

You're telling me that there's a black ichor under the earth made from the ancient dead, whose burning can realize all the dreams of man, but only at the price of slowly returning the earth to its primordial state?

Democrats have been moving right on almost every issue for the past half century.
I guess here on Bluesky it's controversial to note that the Democrats, once the majority across this country, were reduced to national minority (in stages, from 1968, to 1980, to 2016) by moving left.
But if you'd rather think I'm just making Trump's point...well, whatever helps you cope.
I'm questioning this statement, "the left started to lose the public (who to this day don't see Reagan the same way they do.)"
Who is this *public* you speak of? Wouldn't the left be a subset of it?
This feels like the current Trump regime's feelings that Democrats aren't real Americans.

One party wants the destruction of civilization, the other party wants bipartisanship.
I will never understand the pundit obsession with getting Democrats to solve "political division."

Not only is this what they're already doing, but Klein admits that Republicans will never do the same. So elections will remain constant GOP smears and simping Democratic promises of bipartisanship.

Sunday election days make so much more sense than Tuesdays.
Today's the day!

Across #Quebec, Nov. 2 is voting day in 1,100 municipalities.

I'll be voting in #Montreal (the metro area is home to half the province's population). Polls open at 10 am, close at 8 pm.

To help make up my mind, I interviewed 2 of the mayoral candidates...

Elon’s donating them because he can’t sell the ones he’s building, right?
The nation’s largest police fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks is set to begin patrolling the streets of Las Vegas in November thanks to a donation from a U.S. tech billionaire, raising concerns about the blurring of lines between public and private interests.

it’s ironic how nothing makes you sound more like you live in a weird little bubble than when you make the bizarre assumption that liberals in big cities have never interacted with a conservative before
The educated liberal big city US folks outraged at Trump's renovation of Lincoln bathroom really need to scroll some Facebook of their less established relatives and friends to see what kind of aesthetic resonates with Trump's target audience.

The idea that you can talk about the economy without talking about immigrants or the climate (never mind climate immigrants) is also mind boggling.
Okay, let's get into the text...

Here are their bullet point recommendations: Talk about the economy! Don't talk about immigrants or climate or "social issues!" Criticize the ultra-wealthy, but in a very-not-socialist sort of way!

This is... just popularism? Didn't we already do this?
