These artists are taking certain financial losses and severe retribution from the Trump administration to take this noble stand

They are truly heroes who deserve our support
Issa Rae has canceled her sold out performance at the Kennedy Center. Pulitzer Prize winner Rhiannon Giddens, Peter Wolf, Low Cut Connie, and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., have also canceled. Lin-Manuel Miranda has canceled the entire Kennedy Center run of Hamilton.

Stories of immigrants in this thread.
Sometimes I recall that my great grandpa was an egg-candler. Held eggs in front of candles to check yolks

Brought double yolks to his family

And I’m a college professor

And I think: the US, land of immigrants, land of hope

It takes a nanosecond to see how out of step this regime is w/that truth

Today, thoughts inevitably turn to a man whose life and death will always be associated with this time of year – a man whose purity of heart and good works alike contain, I think, the true spirit of the season.
On the true meaning of Christmas
Some notes on the man who to me represents the spirit of the season.

Wealth should have a cap. Once you've made, I dunno, $100 million dollars, that's it. Congratulations, you won Capitalism. You benefitted from society so much, you'll never have a material worry again. We'll name a dog park after you. Everything past that goes into a "social benefit fund."
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I’m looking for a reader - a 7 to 10 year old who is interested in Greek mythology or history (and that child’s grown up). Any takers?

Interesting. Undoubtedly the big problem with self publishing is that you lack the advertising heft of publishers. My massive advertising on Bluesky before Christmas (and many generous reposts: much gratitude) resulted in zero sales. But the process has been fun, and I still like the book. 🙂
Christmas stocking filler. "The Secret of Eilean Mhor, a children's adventure set on the West Coast of Scotland.
Younger grandson: "One of the things I liked was the really good fight at the end."

Long shot, does anyone have an unwanted rabbit hutch in London?

Poor thing was found abandoned on Wanstead Flats today and we are considering giving it an emergency home

The world no longer makes sense, fuckwits are in charge of everything and the internet is even further on with its mission to ruin people’s brains forever. As an ameliorating factor, however, it definitely felt like there were far more butterflies around this year than there had been for a while.

Some notes on Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice, by me

There is a big @wombat37.bsky.social shaped hole in our Christmasses this year. One thing he did for us all was #Twanta. My last year recipient sent me a gift this year in memory of him. He is so missed, now and in the future.
