I help Democrats run effective political campaigns across the country. I live in Florida where we are fighting a losing rearguard action.

The core starting point for understanding the 2024 election: the country moved heavily toward Trump *except* where voters heard the most from Kamala Harris.

The Harris campaign was incredibly effective, but she still lost. If we want to do better, we have to look outside campaign operations.
Why Kamala Lost
Campaigns work, but they only work on the margins

JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are doing something new and important: They understand Stephen Miller's theory of fascist power politics, and they've developed a theory on how to combat it. More Dems need to reckon with Miller's understanding of the moment.

New from me:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

Did DOGE save us $2 trillion?

“Not even close. .. Total spending excluding interest rose $220 billion, or 4%, for the entire fiscal year.” 🤡

The problem is that mayors and governors don't necessarily lack legal powers to control police, they lack *practical* power to control police. De facto, police unions are the most powerful organization in most cities. Even chiefs of police have limited sway.

In order to counter media suppression, we must build independent tools that organize the information which we have but the media doesn't use the right way. tools that **don't depend on grabbing attention**.

this is PIVOT TO WIKI.

Unironically, you can see how these guys’ Twitter brainrot has progressed to this stage where they have trouble remembering that you’re supposed to talk about the Nazis as the bad guys. It’s not a winking nod to neo-Nazis so much as them genuinely forgetting which way is supposed to be up

"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

If I'm hearing the Speaker and Republican leadership right in this press conference they are now saying they will keep the House in recess for the fourth week in a row as troops and federal workers start missing their paychecks

is there any republican phrase more common than "i dont know, i havent seen it"

Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

If you think this, you should take a step back and review your premises.

Because, if anything, the problem is that Dem electeds are too myopically focused on the next election and are therefore avoiding the larger battlefield in favor of pretending everything is a targeted mail plan.

You can’t convince me they actually want to win elections

Step 1: spend decades doing an 'elevated' version of this flowchart (perhaps sub in 'liberalism' for 'Democrats.')

Step 2: watch Republicans hold steady at 50/50 with Dems even as fascists take over their party

Step 3: act appalled that Democrats won't simply take your wise advice on how to fix it

The academy, like mainstream journalism, have failed the test of basic introspection.

You contributed to this. Examine how and fix your own behavior before lecturing others on how they are failing.

Democrats could for example attack Donald Trump as someone using arbitrary powers to make everyone's health care more expensive and worse

Once again, I’m wondering why Democrats aren’t running with a straightforward message of “despotism is un-American and unaffordable” right now and all the way into the midterms.

it really is astounding that the 80s, 90s and early 2000s were spent on this unrelenting campaign to stop teenagers drinking, having sex and doing drugs but when it finally starts working then millenials and gen X start freaking out about it in a way that is clearly just pure projection. incredible.

Q: You were elected 2 weeks ago. Why do you think you have not been sworn in by the Republican Speaker of the House yet?

Rep-elect Grijalva: I don't think there are reasons why I wouldn't be sworn in other than the Epstein files and the complete lack of transparency from this administration

And the move for us is obvious: blame Trump. It's Trump's America where political assassinations are suddenly commonplace. It's Trump’s rhetoric that makes people think shooting someone is a good idea. It's Trump who could end this any time, but who will never end it.
