They’re raised to believe that their adherence to a gender binary is key to their ability to be successful in life & the world, & that strict gender binaries hold some sort of intrinsic value, which is false. They “followed the rules” & think everyone else should to. They could just be free instead.

I feel like this also connects with something about Shakespeare that really does feel unique among "great" artists, which is the fact that he himself disappears – his work resists the Romantic impulse to find the singular individual behind it
I got very choked up in class today showing my students what James Baldwin had to say about Shakespeare:

“the greatest poet in the English language found his poetry where poetry is found: in the lives of the people. he could have done this only through love…”

They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

Trump is increasingly worried about his own mortality, and he's trying to use government to create a physical legacy that will outlive him.

Which is why every bit of it must be torn down and smashed to bits.

Also if you are generally satisfied with life in spite of not being able to get everything you might want, congratulations, you’ve already have something many billionaires can never have—enough.

Has anyone started a cloud service for their friends? I would love to provide a way for me and others to get off of Google.
If they gave me $2/month it would be perfect!

My hot take is you should not be expected/practically required to bring earplugs to a show if you're not going to stand next to a speaker. I'm paying to hear music played live. You have all this tech and you just turn shit up and make it into mush. Great.

The threats to digital civil liberties aren’t secret rooms in AT&T buildings anymore. They’re AI systems, data brokers, and privatized surveillance sold as products.

The EFF has spent 35 years fighting for rights and freedoms. Here’s my take on how it should evolve to fight back.
The EFF we need now
Why the next era of digital civil liberties requires a tighter mission, a bolder strategy, and a clearer view of how power works.

U.S. humanities and arts majors, over their lives, will increase their salaries while their engineering friends start pretty high, and increase more modestly.
Despite being against valuing peoples’ lives based on money, this stat has helped me feel good about my choices and my love of the arts.

Some level-setting heading into the final week of veto:
1️⃣ Pre-pandemic our transit network frequent riders on monthly passes made up a huge portion of the farebox. Post-pandemic, many of those riders are riding less frequently due to WFH, making monthly passes uneconomical at 2019 price points.

god, I just want to resist the trope of the tortured artist so badly. we don’t have to be in pain to create good art. we can learn to embrace & channel our sensitivity & empathy in good health. I know we can.

Dire as the stakes are, leaning into absurdist and lighthearted forms of protest seems like a great way to puncture the fantasy Trump & co are spinning to attempt to rationalize a violent crackdown.
As the administration goes all in on an alternate reality about portland that bears no resemblance to fact and rule of law, continuing radical (and just plain funny, ridiculing) acts of the imagination along with other ways of getting out the reality on the ground may help curb their momentum.

for a single thing in 20 years they've done to stop growing surveillance?

So no, my dude, I don't listen to you. I do the work.
