One big Holocaust education issue in the US is that people don't know the difference between a concentration camp and an extermination camp (though the two were often linked), so they assume that people referring to a "concentration camp" are being unfairly hyperbolic in a case like this.
It remains wild to me that during the first trump administration there was a long debate over terminology after AOC (correctly) called border internment "concentration camps" and now having concentration camps is a core domestic policy.

The purpose of that stupid debate was to normalize the idea.
Camps where tens of thousands of politically disfavored people will be concentrated.

Every single person involved with this should have "250,000 extra dead people is fine, double that would have been okay to spare my feelings" tattooed across their damn face.
This is genuinely horrifying. Fact-free far-right agitprop given accolades by credible media across the political spectrum.

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

When the president says “national security” he gets additional powers

And when the president says “emergency” he gets additional powers

And when the president says “terrorists” he gets additional powers

Requires presidents who do so rarely, in good faith, only when circumstances make it necessary
The White House is now citing "national security" for everything it does. Seriously, check out these headlines. It's just the last few weeks.

If you know authoritarian history, then you know how menacing this is.

I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

Between the TP USA rally, the 60 Minutes CECOT piece and the daily ICE horror show videos, there should be no doubt this regime is 100% capable of genocide, concentration camps, the whole works.

Worth noting, I guess, that inside of a year we've gone from administration officials taking selfies of themselves at CECOT and bragging about how it's hell on earth to now getting their horrible little media worms to kill stories about it

You can very clearly see why someone whose job it is to protect war criminals would need this pulled from the airwaves: It’s visible proof the Trump administration is operating concentration camps.

Yes. The fascist politicians and billionaires who are currently ruining the country are massively mediocre thinkers and monumentally uncreative chumps. They have the advantage of a total lack of morals and a willingness to commit any crime imaginable. But they're losers and they will lose.
they are not brilliant.

the billionaires and institutions in this country are just more craven than we could have ever imagined, even in our most cynical imaginings.

(don't tell me you could imagine. I won't give you a medal.)

The story is insane. The acting head of cyber security, a Noem crony, repeatedly demanded to see highly classified information he didn’t need access to, and when staff set up a lie detector test as a condition to grant him access, he failed it. So DHS suspended the staffers.

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

Wild attempt to adapt the horniest book in the world under the hayes code, classic for a reason
The Postman Always Rings Twice (the original) is on HBO Max through Dec 31. Generates serious heat. Dunno if the leads got along, but they sure look at each other like they mean it. Some unintentional humor in the way the diner owner serves his wife up to the drifter like a slice of peach pie.
