"the government should try, convict and then kill the secretary of defense for the crime he very obviously seems to have committed" seems like a radical thing to say, but -- no, it's not. it's the actual penalty for what pete hegseth, a man who ordered death squads to murder civilians, has done.

I left a church tonight where a large group of people showed their willingness to sacrifice their safety for their immigrant brothers and sisters and who, in the same breadth, asked where was our leadership. Elderly women and men alongside college students alike, sharing together the same shame.
hard to express the feelings of practicing a scenario here where the church is being sieged by immigration to kidnap someone
“We are doing anti-racist work under a fascist government, please act like it.”

Words I don’t think I ever anticipated hearing while sitting in pews before a pulpit

why did Hakeem Jeffries, the house minority leader, praise Donald Trump yesterday for his border policy and for pardoning a corrupt congressman who was indicted for accepting over half a million dollars in bribes from a foreign government

With any luck, the evening of January 19, 2029 will be celebrated with a series of single pops in basements and bathrooms across the capital region.

There’s just no choice anymore. There should be zero Republican House reps from blue states. None.
the democratic response to this must be, in the words of @dennycarter.bsky.social, to go goblin mode on redistricting in the states where they have a trifecta. eliminate every republican district in those states.
This isn't a Supreme Court, it's just six Republican operatives imposing law on the rest of us in order to help Trump and MAGA destroy the Constitution and impose authoritarian rule.

Sometimes I wonder if Americans are so unused to doing political activity outside of voting that we dont appreciate how messy and imperfect it has to be just to get off the ground. Every time there’s a protest, there’s critics that expect ironclad discipline that can’t be expected of a sizable crowd
Something I have come to realize is that a lot of the people who tell you to “do something about it” in response to being upset about the collapse of eg American civil society are also the same people who get incredibly upset when they see someone doing something.

If you're opposed to a protest against war with Venezuela because code pink and PSL are showing up, you should be opposed to no kings, because they also showed up. Purity is a luxury we do not have time, resources or leadership for atm

I am a suicide attempt survivor so I’m kind of selfishly interested in prevention and, again, while it may difficult to completely prevent IDEATION, what ChatGPT does (despite guardrails!) is *cheerlead and facilitate* completion. You can come back from ideation but not a chat-optimized completion.
This is not true. This is argument that pro-gun people use to discount red flag and waiting period laws. Ease of access and lethality (let alone cheerful instruction in the best method!) is the #1 predictor of attempts leading actual completion. The more barriers, the more people live.
I think it's fine Chat GPT is telling people how to kill themselves. They'll figure it out one way or another if they're serious.

You'd think the President repeatedly spewing increasingly more racist shit daily would be newsworthy. Maybe one could even call it a trend. Perhaps it can tell us something about the Republican party broadly.

Or maybe journalists can keep grading Trump on a curve because this is "normal" for him.

What's happening with Horses is a full repeat of the Rule Of Rose clusterfuck, which got the game blocked from release in multiple countries, based on (unfounded) rumors that the game contained - quoting Wikiepdia - "children buried alive underground, in-game sadomasochism, and underage eroticism."
i am going completely insane watching gamers make up shit about horses and interrogating every single thing the devs have said for inconsistencies and then deciding well it probably had cp in it. this is the easy mode version of the kinds of censorship that are to come and you're failing like babies

Guess what I did given I was tired of being humiliated by a democratic establishment that still refuses to make an issue out of secret police putting my family in internment camps! It’s not too late to actually do something instead of getting mad online that someone else organized!

damn if only we had a national democratic party that could help mobilize these instead of a loose assemblage of leftwing groups that are mostly volunteer based and therefor prone to entryism from any fringe actor with money

the HORSES affair is a startlingly low bar to cross to see if people actually care about protecting games from censorship of upsetting themes because it's far tamer and has way more moral clarity than a lot of stuff that doesn't get banned. but it's also very clarifying to see who can't cross it

Sometimes the intensity of AI hate weirds me out a little too but like cmon people hate it bc it’s coming for their jobs, and usually it’s literally visual artists and animators on here who are already facing nonzero financially meaningful competition from AI.
