This is a good point. His Last Jedi ranking may cost him some swing states
I don't know you guys, do we really WANT a candidate who panders to this website THIS hard?
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

My hot take is that people can be very wrong about movies while still having other valuable opinions to offer. Many such cases

They’ve learned a few things about accounting since Enron
"It seems like a marvel of financial engineering: Meta is building a $27 billion data center in Louisiana, financed with debt, and neither the data center nor the debt will be on its own balance sheet."
AI Meets Aggressive Accounting at Meta’s Gigantic New Data Center
Favorable treatment off the balance sheet hinges on some convenient assumptions.

“… they will lose the majority before this term is out” is certainly a “huge if true” sort of statement
PUNCHBOWL: “.. GOP members messaged us over the weekend saying that they, too, are considering retiring in the middle of the term. Here’s one particularly exercised senior House Republican:

answer is great but also it's telling that the guy who's been saying this since day 1 has to answer about whether he's an antisemite for 5 min every interview while the same people grin vacantly at the jewish space lasers lady and call her a brave warrior
WELKER: What is your message to Jewish New Yorkers who feel you won't be tough enough in your response to antisemitism?

MAMDANI: That I am looking forward to being the next mayor and fulfilling the commitment I've made to Jewish New Yorkers to not only protect them but to celebrate and cherish them

If someone handed me a column draft this week about how Jeffrey Epstein was not symptomatic or representative of a broader elite class, and that column did not contain the name "Summers" (or "Harvard") I would hand back the draft and ask for some revisions

Wow. Trump was asked about Mamdani arresting Netanyahu. He simply said they didn't discuss.

He was asked about sending agents to NY & Mamdani disagreeing. He simply said they both want NY safe.

Mamdani had Trump doing something he rarely does: emphasizing agreement, over and over

Yeah they say politics is the art of the possible but this is really something
Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

He good at this
"I expect to be helping him, not hurting him. A big help" -- Trump is totally charmed by Mamdani

Enjoyed this one, speaking as someone scarred in the (relentless) Thucydides Trap discourse wars of the late 2010s

“In a startling reversal, it is America, not China, that seems determined to spring Thucydides’ trap. At the world’s summit, America is overthrowing America.”
Trump has ended all the worry about China destroying the American-led order by destroying American primacy all on his own. My latest: www.nytimes.com/2025/11/21/o...

Prohibiting the word oppression seems a little on the nose
This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

SCOOP — A former staffer for Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Natalie Green, 26, was charged today for falsely reporting she was attacked by 3 men who wrote "TRUMP WHORE" on her stomach bc of her job. It was staged by her + a friend.

Van Drew isn't named in the complaint but I've confirmed w/ his office.

This is super interesting. Trying to fathom the phenotype, as it were, of cops who are keen to leave their local force to join ICE
Underrated thing that's been flying under the radar: ICE's hiring spree, by necessity since there are so few others willing and able, has been hiring away local cops, which infuriates the departments by causing manpower problems and is, ironically, removing the worst of the worst from their ranks.
The more local police see ICE assholes as criminals, the better it will be for us.

Hearing her state out loud “the kids who starved had complicated medical histories actually” is a very “Do you hear yourself?” thing and beyond that a case of anyone thinking that reporting had value even on its own stated terms just massively undermines credibility.
Jewish Federations applauds Olivia Reingold, a staff writer at Bari Weiss's Free Press, as she victory laps her (ghoulish and erroneous) reporting that some of the children Israel was starving to death and denying medical aid to in Gaza had pre-existing conditions.

This is pretty amazing. This guy just won a solid victory in Bucks County, PA, one of the most important swing counties in the country, by *explicitly and deliberately* making his race *all about* nationalizing ICE raids. Confirms the point about this now being a winning issue for Dems.

Further, it’s stunning how Lepore waxes on about the excesses of #MeToo without acknowledging she signed a public defense of a prominent anthropology professor against his accusers, then was embarrassed into retracting when the accusers’ lawsuit dropped. Her interviewer here doesn’t bring this up!
The Lepore interview boils down to her saying that despite better pay, research support, & resources than 99.9% of historians working today, she wanted to quit because some students - whom she barely has to teach given the low load - were too woke. These are not the advocates the discipline needs!
