I myself made a Christmas Carol joke, b/c the events of A Christmas Carol take PLACE on Christmas Eve, which this is. But the implications that he should be spending tonight in particular expressing goodwill or celebrating with his family are assuming Christian behavior is the default, & let's not.

And to be clear: the action one does if one is feeling guilty tonight or tomorrow is give cash to organizations feeding the hungry and sheltering the houseless. It is not to show up at a shelter and ask to serve food.

You gotta get vetted to volunteer, so you start with cash, put a reminder —
Pope Leo said in a Christmas Eve sermon that the story of Jesus being born in a stable because there was no room at an inn should remind Christians that refusing to help the poor and strangers today is tantamount to rejecting God himself. For @reuters.com

In NYC there are plenty of people who don't celebrate, and people who do, who dont have anywhere to go.
So as is our tradition, Anyone Comics in BK and Everyone Comics at Queensboro Plaza will be there to entertain from 12-5pm and handing out free books for those who feel left out!

Farm workers are silently in the background of all of our lives working tirelessly to deliver the food we eat.

Celebrate farm workers this holiday season by making a donation to help fund change all year long.

It remains wild to me that during the first trump administration there was a long debate over terminology after AOC (correctly) called border internment "concentration camps" and now having concentration camps is a core domestic policy.

The purpose of that stupid debate was to normalize the idea.

Because it’s a bad take . We can absolutely provide blue books and non internet connected devices . We don’t fight plagiarism with ableism
I'm dysgraphic, and "it's okay to put people through unnecessary physical pain because that's the most convenient way for instructors to prevent cheating" is um.

Not a take I'm aligned with.

Hand cramps can be debilitating and BLOCK STUDENTS FROM THE SCORES THEY DESERVE and YES that is a problem
Does anyone else bristle at this framing? WSJ says blue books are “torturing” students with hand cramps, and “nobody likes them.”

Listen, students have been outsourcing everything to AI and cheating their way through college. Blue books should be celebrated as a return to authentic human learning.

Because the framing invites an unnecessary binary that invites ableism

Hand cramps are real and with VARIOUS disabilities a real concern

And a Blue book exam can work… but also a solution of a non internet connected typing device can be used

They Were Every Student’s Worst Nightmare. Now Blue Books Are Back.
Cheating with ChatGPT has become a huge problem for colleges. The solution is painfully old-school.

The judge also ordered that teachers have a right to misgender trans youth even when the parents know of and are supportive of their trans child. Just in case you thought this was actually about parental rights.
24 Dec 2025 @rikiwilchins.bsky.social -- Judge overturns CA school policy on outing trans kids, rules parents have right to know & teachers a right to tell them but no mention of child's rights. Case likely bound for Supremes. Weirdly CA law allows abortion w/o parental notification.
Federal judge rules California teachers are allowed to ‘out’ transgender students to parents
The ruling applies to all public schools in California and is a victory for two teachers who claimed that district policies violated their constitutional free speech and religious rights.

I started at 59k/year when I was at NYLAG as a staff attorney representing trans asylum seekers. This kind of money to target a community like this is unimaginable to me. It's infinitely more profitable to sow hate than it is to help people.
Anti-trans demagogue and fifth place swimmer Riley Gaines earned $470,000+ last year from a conservative non-profit.

Notably, $420k was incentive-based.

A neat little window into the way the transphobic grift is being compensated.

I wonder what the per-post rate is?

There's an audio recording of him, not an aide, asking for votes to swing a state in a Presidential election and that wasn't enough to get him locked up or even keep him from the White House
As people comb the Epstein files for some crime they can get Trump on I’m thinking about how he was found with boxes of stolen top secret files in his possession and somehow that ended up being impossible to prosecute.

“biggest cure for toxic masculinity is platonic women friends” is correct
This is a model for what actual masculinity should be. Men don’t need to spend more time in caves beating their chests with other men; they need to take their daughters to a meaningful thing and talk to them about it. Relatedly I think the biggest cure for toxic masculinity is platonic women friends

Not allowed to see a news story about current events.

They may disagree w/it.
But to entirely censor it?

ANTI-democratic.
BIG time.

We have a right to see & judge for ourselves.

W/O the strong-arm of “big brother”
