America’s Inequality Is No Accident—Workers Know It
This week on the Labor Force Podcast: Starbucks baristas escalate what may become the largest strike in the company’s history, demanding real movement at the bargaining table after years of delay tactics and retaliation. We break down the $35 million New York City settlement, the nationwide picket lines, and why workers say this moment is bigger than coffee. Then we head to Iowa, where 2,000 UnityPoint nurses are preparing for a union vote with Teamsters Local 90 after years of unsafe staffing, burnout, and violence on the job. In New York, over 350 nurses at Cayuga Medical Center form Cayuga United–CWA, citing deteriorating conditions and the need for a stronger voice in patient care. And in Florida, city workers in Titusville rebuild their union from scratch under the state’s brutal new anti-union law, SB256. After the labor headlines, we take on a deeper question: How did China eliminate extreme poverty while the richest country on Earth let millions fall through the cracks? We dive into inequality, policy choices, and the uncomfortable truth that America’s economic outcomes aren’t accidental—they’re engineered. Finally, we explore the growing argument for building a real Labor Party in the United States. From Mamdani’s people-powered organizing in Queens to Dan Osborn’s near victory in Nebraska, we look at what a working-class political movement could accomplish in deep red states where Democrats barely register. This episode connects the dots: workplace power, policy choices, and the political future of America’s multiracial working class.

TCM will remain under the Discovery umbrella, which is now a separate company and not part of the Netflix deal

Considering Netflix doesn’t seem to care about anything before the 21st Century, I imagine they’ll just dump them.
This is why I buy physical media, so I can own these precious films and not have to worry about the whims of megalomaniacs.

So what's going to happen to TCM in this Netflix-Warners/HBO deal? That's what I really want to know.

Finally watching the first season of Slow Horses. Hubs is not a fan…but then he doesn’t like mystery or thrillers the way I do.

I still think a lot about the fact that Gamergate did essentially win. Not that it made the culture significantly more misogynistic or anything, but it succeeded in making a lot of the people who played games eventually casually much more anti-intellectual and incurious.

Sadly, medical school admission criteria do not include anything about strength of character or integrity. Our former pediatrician is serving 14 consecutive life sentences plus 165 years. All the physicians currently serving seem like awful human beings.

Agree. Cassidy is as responsible for the coming wave of unnecessary morbidity and mortality. He’s a republican, not a physician

Cassidy’s “yes” to confirm RFK Jr. has to be the most impactful vote by a single senator in the 21st century, right? Only other one I can recall that comes close is McCain saving the ACA.

If the Democratic Party retakes Congress, the first duty is accountability. Every crime, every abuse, every betrayal of the public trust must be unearthed. If we look away, we teach future generations that power excuses corruption.
