Researchers, activists, and community members have been calling attention to this issue for a few years but, like other instances of environmental racism, most people outside these groups ignore the problem. This is just one reason it's so important for the NS report to be made public.

It's good that the NS panel on environmental racism report was leaked, which pushed the gov. to respond, because we need to address the past as well as recognize how this continues. For example, genAI data centers are often built in historically marginalized communities (aka environmental racism). 🧵
Every Nova Scotian would benefit from the release of this report. The province is so small that everywhere is your backyard. Its extremely important for understanding & addressing past harms, as well as challenging on-going concerns like fracking, uranium mining, and any potential AI development.
Black and Indigenous communities were asked to share painful experiences of environmental racism. They did.

Now the Houston government refuses to release the report—and some ministers haven't even looked at it.

If I had known the path to big money was being mediocre at a sport then spreading hate towards a marginalized community, I would have stopped at being mediocre at sports.

This will have a huge impact on public health in Canada & Carney’s gov’t needs to move quickly on travel vaccination requirements for kids going to the US.. We need to get out ahead of this before more Canadian kids die of preventable diseases…

andy doesn't play well with others and may require remedial social support to combat his conceit.
Interesting that the mayor felt like he was in opposition to city administration. And that $22,000 had to be spent teaching him how to work with, and not against others. Will it be money well spent? Or will he continue to play the leader of the opposition attack dog position in the future?

When I'm accused of naivety for thinking the world can change for the better, I use this very example.

I'm not old & in my lifetime, smoking went from absolutely everywhere, to "smoking sections", to the current reality.

It took education, new laws, & peer pressure. All of it - no silver bullet.
I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

Gender-affirming care for youth is just simple medical care. It isn’t political, it’s not radical. It is small-c conservative care that is what is recommended by doctors to protect the health and lives of kids and teenagers. Please protect trans kids.

one more think about expecting people to mask when they're sick. The last 6 years have taught me that the majority of people don't know when they're sick, or maybe can convince themselves that their symptoms aren't an indication of illness. As they're coughing, they'll choke out "I'm not sick."

If you're going to invoke Eartha Kitt's groundbreaking song "Santa Baby," you better fully commit to wanting to fuck Santa. No pronoun changing, no "Santa Pally," no fully meaning chimney without the double entendre.

Commit. I'm lookin at you, Bublé.
