It’s so funny that Instagram’s search function uses “meta AI.” I’m just typing the names of muscular women. Not sure why you gotta get a super computer involved.

Others have noted this before, but it's ENRAGING to see corporations and bosses give this bullshit "A.i." trash FAR more leeway for error and general crappiness than they'd ever give any human creator.
I've started to see arguments that we have to get used to AI Slop coding even if it isn't great, because it's fast. Humans could go faster, too, if they're allowed to turn in stuff that only sometimes works. Such a fascinating double standard that will in no way come back to haunt, naw.

this is deeply ghoulish, but it would also have been possible pre-AI - you could equally lie to elderly relatives using photoshop. the issue isn't just gen AI as a technology but the marketing and cultural trends around bypassing death, AI's universal applicability, deprioritising truth etc
The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction

You need to read this thread and you need to be calling every representative you have and threatening to literally never vote for them again and donate your time to getting them replaced if they do this.

If you don't, it's basically the end of the internet.
It’s very simple. Genuinely very simple. Until Section 230, it was the case that any website that allowed a user to publish any content of any kind could be sued if they said *anything* libelous or bad. That includes web hosts, blogging platforms, social media etc.

This is presented in a jokey way but honestly it works! I was talking about the rfk announcement shitshow with my (non-autistic) partner, and she was like "there's something weirdly insulting about it too" and I was like "well, it's eugenics" and she got it immediately
i made a helpful reference

What is the text saying about those keywords? Is it building on a greater body of work, or contesting it? Are different parts of the text about different things, with only a part of its argument being relevant to what you want to learn?

Zero traction. "Text is about topic. I am very intelligent."

There's a very old SF story about an attempt to make children learn via subconscious suggestion; they can repeat the phrase "the Nile is the longest river in Egypt" but not answer "what is the Nile?" or "what is the longest river in Egypt?"

This story perfectly nailed how people learn today.

This explains the popularity of LLMs, which can break a text down into keywords, and then the "reader" can say "oh yeah it is about these keywords" and get exactly the same benefit out of the text as if they themselves had read it ⸻ because they cannot draw conclusions with *or without* AI help.
