It’s almost like we don’t even know what to say about the amount of money being given to ICE in the bill for fear that our friends and neighbors will all say, great we love that. I find it nauseating, like the fact that my country is doing this to people actually makes my stomach churn.
About six months ago I booked a solo group trip for myself to Morocco. Meaning I’m going to meet a small group but I’m traveling alone and won’t know anyone. It seemed like a good idea at the time but I’m at the airport and I’m very nervous!

an unspoken truth is that “conservative” is coded “white” which is why the media reports on them like their grievances are the only ones coming from “real america”
A great example of how the @nytimes.com centers white Americans and Trump supporters in its anecdotal political coverage. You never see stories like this about Black Democrats whose cities are cracked in Republican gerrymandering to give them Republican elected officials.
They Wanted a Conservative State. They Might Get a Democratic Representative Instead.

The passage of Proposition 50, which redrew California’s congressional map, means that all of the state’s conservative north is likely to be represented by Democrats.

Rough estimate of this year: as a freelancer and full time private teacher I had 150-160 rehearsals/concerts/services. No wonder I felt busy! Plus all my teaching😳

In retrospect, it was a pretty big mistake to invent a system of representative democracy that had no mechanism for toppling a terrible government before the end of its scheduled term. That's on us, def a whoopsie on that one.

Maybe I shoudl have AI write this post, and then instead of you reading it, AI could read it, and then we could all just go outside and enjoy the weather, I guess? More likely the powers that be would prefer we use that time to work some sort of factory job though, so I think instead I'll just write this damn post by myself, thank you very much.

Coming back to this, I'm still struck by the implication that academics should care if the AI pushers "trust" all our work that's done without AI.

I don't know, man, you all seemed to trust our work enough to steal it from us wholesale.
I would struggle to trust an academic who doesn‘t know how to
use AI tools.
Which is not the same as not being critical.

Interesting to consider that if you were to go and deface the Kennedy center by removing Trump’s name, you’d be arrested and charged with a crime, but your act would be no more unlawful than what they’re doing right now.

The networks were afraid not to run Trump because they assumed he would use his office to punish them if they didn’t. The irony is that this is what Biden was warning about, a warning they chose not to share with America.

I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

The simplest explanation for why Susie Wiles was so honest about Trump to Vanity Fair: like most Republicans, she's focused on post-Trump plans.

Like the rest of us, Republicans are just waiting for him to die, so we can all move on.

Bondi is Australia’s first deadly mass shooting in 3 years

Brown is USA’s first deadly mass shooting in 3 days

And the 15th deadly & 389th overall mass shooting of 2025

Interesting fact: some of us have a really hard time reading white letters on a black background. I don’t know why, but I can’t read it very well at all. So when people repost pictures of a wall of text of it, I can’t read it unless the print is really large.

I have the morning off and I thought, maybe it's not too late to tell you about our trip to South Carolina. If you are a long time reader you'll know this, but I grew up in Clinton, South Carolina, a small town in the upstate of South Carolina, and my parents still live there. Louie and I decided to drive down for Thanksgiving, but to go from Tuesday to Saturday to avoid the worst of the traffic.
