Striking BL staff, struggling to pay their rent, advised to consider not giving presents this year, and interim CEO, Jeremy Silver, has the nerve to tell them they ‘don’t live in a real world’. Only 17% of staff guaranteed the Living Wage (£14.80 ph) suggests acute familiarity with the ‘real world’.
British Library staff asked for a decent pay. Instead they got ‘a few money-saving present ideas’, such as ‘consider not giving presents this holiday season’. They are on strike this week. I wrote about it for @lrb.co.uk. www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/de...

imagine if Nick Griffin had proposed in 2010 that we should be stealing jewellery from refugees who arrive here, we’d have spent 15 years pointing to it as a low point in the political discourse around immigration, but now we’re just suppose to accept it from our “””centre-left””” government

The Reform vision of the UK is Dubai but without the glamour. It really is that simple, and it’ll take years for lobby journalists on six figure salaries to figure this out

ACADEMIC READING ALREADY COMES WITH A SUMMARY IT IS CALLED THE ABSTRACT
The Appendix on an AI policy is actually quite bad. Having an AI deliver a summary before reading has major implications in terms of the experience of student learning. What we want students to do and how they do it is the question. The experience of reading is not the same as reading a summary.

Since we're apparently going to have to fight all of the revisionist Greatest Hits of the late 2010s all over again -

Corbyn was never 'unelectable'; had merely 2,227 votes in key marginals gone the other way in the 2017 GE, he would have been PM.
