charlottesville spent most of a decade revising its zoning code. it held endless community meetings and gave opponents ample opportunity to make their case. they lost. but a handful of rich homeowners sued and have gotten the new code overturned on a technicality.

It's a straightforward relationship: high #inequality leads to the triumph of the far right. It will keep winning until governments deliberately seek to make societies more equal. I'm looking at you, Keir Starmer.

sprawl is an unmitigated environmental, social, and economic disaster

it is no longer affordable (especially when you add in transportation and time)

sprawl is driving climate change. literally.

and it is a ponzi scheme - unable to fund maintenance and replacement costs
Not a single time in this article glorifying the need for sprawl to address the US's affordable housing crisis is there a mention of the vast transportation costs of sprawling living patterns. Nor is there mention of the fact that sprawl is directly linked to disinvestment in urban cores.
America Needs More Sprawl to Fix Its Housing Crisis
The word has become an epithet for garish, reckless growth — but to fix the housing crisis, the country needs more of it.

If Hamas had killed 7 Israelis inside of Israel this week, it would be one of the biggest stories in the world, & all over the US media.

But Israel killed 7 HUNDRED Palestinians this week, including almost 200 children, & yet there's little outrage from our politicians or media.

After 10 years of Labour membership, I finally cancelled a month ago and this week attended my first local @greenparty.org.uk meeting. I met good people fighting for the things that matter most.

Nearly half of those at the meeting were new members. Labour are losing support rapidly
"MPs on the left of the party have called for wealth taxes rather than welfare cuts, but that is a non-starter with the chancellor."

When wealth taxes instead of welfare cuts are a non starter, there's not really a "left of the party."

Labour MPs have been expressing unease about the proposed cuts to welfare, ahead of announcements next week.

As expected, public approval of congestion pricing in New York is following the same trajectory it followed in London, Stockholm and everywhere else it was tried. One would hope we could learn a lesson from such things!
"More NYC residents now support the program than oppose it. About 42% said the toll should remain while 35% want it eliminated, according to Siena’s latest poll. That’s a reversal from December, when only 32% supported the $9 fee while 56% were against it."

A relative sent me 12 minutes of video footage of the family farm in varying weather around 1968-69. I didn't know this existed until today and it's so beautiful. I was born in '97 and only have fleeting memories of the farm, and sadly some of the relatives in the film. Here are some lovely stills.

Greens are the only genuine opposition at present. Lab, Con, Ref, LD are all the party of capital
I wrote for @huffpost.com on why the government's plans to slash welfare spending are a cruel, unnecessary choice. Time to start taxing wealth fairly instead of stripping away support from those who can least afford to lose it.
