Here's the adult vaccination recommendations as of Nov 2024. Why did I save these? Because I knew someone was going to try to stomp on this, and not today, Satan. Not today. #CDC #vax #vaccines #getvaxxed

A 1953 draft story described two collaborative teams (the experimentalists Wilkins-Franklin; the theorists Watson-Crick), with Franklin as an equal partner in testing the model.

The draft was discovered by Cobb and Comfort in the archives and represents contemporary evidence...

The “canonical” story how Rosalind Franklin got wronged by Watson and Crick inadvertently makes her look far less scientifically competent than she was (“She did not realize the significance of her own data!”). This article offers a much more nuanced account of what happened.
What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.

The surprising story of the New York mayoral campaign is not liberal Zionist opposition to Mamdani’s campaign, but their support.

It's been a minute, but it's once again time for some fun with etymology.

Terry Pratchett fans might already know one this, but "nice" didn't always connote being pleasant or kind to other. In the 17th century (the time of Agnes Nutter, witch), it meant being fastidious, detail-oriented, precise.
nice is a social strategy
Most people on earth are perfectly pleasant to casually interact with! Lots of the most deeply horrible people are tremendously charismatic — it’s how they can prosper while being so horrible!

Trump is proposing a $1 trillion military budget.

Roughly half of US defense spending goes to private military contractors, with investigations finding that these companies routinely price-gouge.

Oh, and the Pentagon has failed seven straight audits.

Fun fact: if you're buying from a creator on etsy, you can reduce their etsy selling fees from 6.5% to 2.5% by ordering via 'shopname.etsy.com' instead of 'etsy.com/shopname' or searching from the main site. It costs you the same but the creator makes more

One of the most important things you can do as a software engineer is properly vet your package dependencies.

LLM-powered code writing might end up training a generation of developers not to do this, making literally our entire software ecosystem less secure.
