I think it’s important to insist on recalling, at all available opportunities, that this was specifically an attack on a trans instructor over an assignment about gender. Neither of those details are incidental; they are the center of the story
If you’re wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, it’s because an eighteen-year-old who hasn’t done the reading, doesn’t look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than “because I think it’s in the Bible” can literally end your career

TA’s get assistantships to teach while going to school fulltime. So by firing her from the TA position, she has also most likely lost her assistantship. This means she has to come up with money to pay for school and rent and groceries because now she has no income. This was a hit job.

My friend's wife went to a library in Ireland where the books are so fragile you have to wear gloves to handle them. And sure, there are people working on digitizing them, but come on. 200 page FRAGILE books? How fast are you gonna get through that
When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.
Seems like it's worth posting this one again.

You know how when they do a restoration of an old painting they slowly remove the old yellow varnish with solvent and then they reapply a new varnish and it looks so clear and detailed and amazing. I think I need that done to me
