Should things escalate further and today goes down in history as the end of American hegemony future UK historians may be surprised to find the papers focusing on the Beckhams falling out.

What the United States has done this week is as devastating for the cosy Atlanticist world view, as the Credit Crunch was for those who comfortably believed that left to themselves markets tended towards equilibrium.

In other words: a serious conceptual rupture.

A world view has died this week.

For this post to be about the United States and not Russia shows that there has been an absolute diplomatic revolution.
I spoke to the Secretary-General of NATO, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz and Giorgia Meloni.

Together we stand firm in our commitment to uphold the sovereignty of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.

Anonymous Tory MP in 2018:

"If we try to cancel Brexit, we destroy ourselves. If we go ahead with it, we destroy the country."

They did both. And now the culprits are running from the wreckage.

China and Russia must be having a field day. They are the ones who benefit from divisions among Allies.

If Greenland’s security is at risk, we can address this inside NATO.

Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity. (1/2)

This is not just about Greenland. With Trump, there is no stability. Where he senses weakness, he comes back to demand more. He does so on trade. He now starts to demand territory. The question is not if to stand up, but when.

The Government coming off X is the bare minimum and realistically at this point I think we should seriously be looking at taking enforcement action against the company, in line with the Online Safety Act and VAWG Strategy. I will be pressing the Government on this when Parliament returns next week.

Two stories you may not have seen this week that would be a big deal in a normal country:

1) The ‘dossier’ detailing the BBC’s editing of the Trump speech literally edited Trump’s speech.

2) The NBER calculated that Brexit’s longer term damage to GDP was greater than originally forecast.
