I could not be more proud to live in Minnesota. The Twin Cities standing up for each other is the constant reminder we need to be laser-focused on protecting our rights as humans and neighbors.

Wouldn't be anywhere else.

One comfort in the midst of *gestures at everything* is that the "good in a crisis" folks in Minnesota really do stand out. Not flashy, but in the small pockets of time where we show genuine compassion and care to another -- understanding these events will be scar tissue. It'll be a permanent scar.

Finally, college football delivers what a decade of NCAA14 save files proved: *you* CAN win the Championship, school name be damned. And if you don't like that, you don't like college football.

>"It is not an easy time to be in public service."

The best public servants step up when it's hard. They move to act. What residents demand is to not just do the job, but *for the people. If the call to action isn't thundering through you now, when will it? When it's easy? When you need votes or $?

Something important about how regular folks have responded to the occupation in Minnesota is that it has created a permission structure for other people across the country to feel like they can fight this regime. Over the past couple of weeks I've seen a lot of people finally step off the sidelines.

This is Minneapolis:

You go to the local park for an Art Sled rally. The turnout is robust even though it’s 11 degrees and protests are occurring in multiple places around the city. Over half of the sleds have an anti-ICE theme.

Abigail Spanberger was told to throw trans youth under the bus during her campaign. She refused to do so.

She won the election by 15 percent. A dominant victory. A landslide.

She was just sworn-in as the 75th Governor of Virginia, the first woman to lead the state.

Living a moral life in an age of bullies requires collective action; it cannot be done alone. Each of us must organize and participate in a vast network of moral resistance. From this solidarity we will grow stronger. This is what our current moment requires.

I keep thinking about the toxic, pervasive mythology of "rugged individualism" as a driving force in American culture, and how the collective efforts in the Twin Cities right now are proof that the only way through hard times is together, as a community.

you know this guy is a FOR REAL photographer because he's telling the story of his brutal, unconditional arrest by federal goons and can't help but slip in a gear review
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Yesterday, these incompetent fucks were just going door-to-door in a neighborhood near my house at 8:30 in the morning. School buses were driving through trying to pick up kids, people were out walking their dogs, and people were taking out their trash cans.

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

They hate Minnesota because we are a people who believe that "we all do better when we all do better."

Minnesota is one of the wealthiest, safest, and cleanest states in the country *because* of our openness and generosity.

Our quality of life is a direct challenge to their zero-sum worldview.
