Seriously, this should have immediately prompted a massive public project to identify & free the falsely convicted, and to charge the people involved for their actions. Correcting this should have been a major focus of national politics for years to come.
Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.
Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

I'm not mad at people much younger than me for having less skill in reading than I expect. I taught myself to read at pretty much the same time I started talking. But our literacy method actually worked; theirs was a scam I am furious at.
