A little botulism history and etymology.
In 1793, in the village of Wildbad, Germany, 13 people became very sick after eating blood sausage made with pork stomach.
Several other outbreaks of "sausage poisoning" led to discovery of a toxin made in anaerobic conditions.
They used the Latin word for sausage: "botulus" to name it botulism.
