Accidental academic (STEM education, CAD & CNC) 30+ years. Drummer who designs guitars. Self-identifies as 'cis-het male & recovering Republican.' Opinionated. Crippled by periodic bouts of impostor's syndrome. Definitely married up.
Never underestimate the power and reach of malicious compliance by thoughtful academics.

"Trump's import sales tax."
Four simple words.
Keep it simple... for the base.
Be real, WSJ. The tariffs are import taxes imposed on businesses (and individuals) in the United States who import goods into the United States.
Donald Trump said he will impose a 10% tariff—that will rise to 25%—on European countries that don’t support his controversial plan to take over Greenland.

These tariffs won't ever end until it becomes common to hear them referred to by pundits and around the watercooler as "Trump's import sales tax."
This endless tariff game needs to come to an end. It is out of control!

The December Comfort Watches 2025, Day Twenty-Nine: Apollo 13
Apollo 13 is a film that sits atop a small but diverse and, for some people, extremely enjoyable sub-genre of film: Competence Porn. This has nothing to do with actual pornography (well, I guess it…

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

The correct term of art is, "Hood robbin' ."
Since January, Trump's Treasury has quietly gutted enforcement of the corporate alternative minimum tax — a huge boon for big business and wealthy investors.

Meanwhile, he's led an all-out assault on Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs that help the poor.

Reverse Robin Hood.

My father worked on an offshore wind farm. Woke up early every morning before dawn to wrangle the zephyrs out to pasture, then he had to milk the breezes. Sometimes one of the gales would get a little rowdy.

He died of whale-lung at the age of forty two.
