My evals this semester were terrible. I’m not teaching next semester because of it. The main complaint? I made students do exams by hand and the other section got to use their computers. Guess which section has a huge cheating problem.
This didn't make it in, but I tried telling the reporter that the reason students use LLMs with impunity is that 70% of faculty are temporary, contingent workers who require perfect student evals to continue having a job.

Cheating is a problem we chose to have and pretend to be mad about.
Does anyone else bristle at this framing? WSJ says blue books are “torturing” students with hand cramps, and “nobody likes them.”

Listen, students have been outsourcing everything to AI and cheating their way through college. Blue books should be celebrated as a return to authentic human learning.

I think it reads more like we fucked up the first firing for cause and have to redo it to make it stick. Everybody covering their asses time.
the campus-wide email asking umich people to report any information they may have on sherrone moore feels like an indication the initial internal investigation into him was not a serious undertaking

Tilda hit the nail on the head. Accommodations are more work for people that are already overworked and underpaid. IMO they are also the right thing to do. Richer people will benefit more from inclusion policies. When your students are rich kids it can feel like that they are gaming the system.
the central issue in all the talk of accommodations in education is that like it or not, they are extra work, and teachers who are committed to making their classrooms more accommodating are signing up for a lot of extra unheralded and uncompensated work, and at the end of the semester that sucks

Time to make some calls I guess
How often does the thing people have expected for 2 years to happen in 2-3 years actually happened in 2 years
Nothing is absolutely confirmed yet, but there is way too much smoke from everywhere, including College Station.

This is how you do game 1 of the season. Don’t play a team with a pulse. If they don’t have a logo, even better.

I swear to god yall can't read. The whole article talks about the views of Dem commentators, two sitting senators, and the consultants constantly telling the party and voters to moderate and ditch nonwhite people to appeal to whites under the guise of pragmatism or pushing the party to the left.
Claiming this is reflective of the Democratic party is just not true. Janet Mills is right there!

The story is about farm land owners not farm workers. "Farmer" is deliberate obfuscation of to make them more likeable. It would be the same if a story about tech VCs was about "Programmers" or a story about gallery owners framed as "artists are struggling".
It’s too bad only farmers are people and not librarians or artists or healthcare workers or researchers.

Instead, IU football coach got a new contract ($92.8 million) a week after Mark Cuban donated to the football team.
Billionaires are always inserting themselves into situations when it is unneeded or unwanted but when their influence could be useful, they aren’t around. Anyway. Mark Cuban is an IU alum. He could fund that student newspaper in perpetuity with pocket change. Or withhold institutional donations.

Everything that gives your team an edge is good and should be done. Work the refs, throw trash, lie, etc etc
To be clear, it's exactly as legal as throwing all the water bottles in the stadium onto the field to successfully get a call changed.

TS is behaving like YugiOh, Pokémon and MtG now. Just releasing a billion versions of the same thing that are increasingly rare, "exclusive" and expensive. Just sucking the fanbase dry.
